Nitro tap at Ballydoyle, Downers Grove. Not a lot of actual Irish stouts actually get over to these shores (dunno if this is actually made in Canada for US consumption). But, first off, my experience with this beer is enhanced by the fact that they know how to pour pint here. Starts out with a cascade of bubbles making the glass look brown, then settles to solid black with a brown, creamy head up top; the standard for a stout. I’m not catching a lot of aroma in this weather, but I can say it’s a fine, light malt with a slight note of chocolate, but no off notes from roasted barley. Taste is definitely distinguishable from Guinness, less sour, drier, and just a little bit smoother. Again, not too bitter or astringent, just a fine stout as practiced by the brewer for many years.

chiara schiuma media disreta persistenza il naso non è ampio malto dolciastro in bocca il primo attacco è piuttosto dolce poi arriva l’amaro che ben presente ma svanisce presto e torna il dolce nonostante i gradi piuttosto beverina

Dark brown with reddish glimts and a medium beige creamy head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt and coffee notes. Sweet flavour with roasted malt, coffee and carolus notes. Slightly smoked. Finishes sweet. Creamy mouthfeel.

Nice looking 12 oz bottle. Pleasant lade back somewhat volatile aroma. Plenty of sparkling carbonation visible in this darker iced tea colored beer. Clean and smooth taste bud attack which is non offensive and creamy. Mildly building interesting bitterness in the back of the throat. Good example of a heddy beer without being over the top. Sometimes even has a hint of roasty in there. Friendly to the finish, decent brew.

A red amber ale with a thine white head. Aroma is a tad sulfury and adjuncts. In mouth, a sweetish malt, with light nutty notes, a bit better than Rickards Red but still, this sucked. Bottle bought at Supersol market, Vall d’Herbon. Tasted Mid Nov. 2006.

On tap @ de Beiaard. Pitch black, nice creamy beige head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts and some thin watery liquorice flavours. Flavour is bitter roasted malts, coffee. Bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. A bit more bitter than Guinness, less watery.

Draught can......separates nicely...dark brown body, creamy tan head....light body--up front sour coffee....metal in mid-palate and finish, also lots of licorice...it took awhile to get it...actually I knew there was something weird, and it became apparent when described to me---sweet aroma wish there was more--a tease and no further developing....a soapy taste too....the best thing this beer has going is the initial seperation...and that it is now out of my fridge...whew

Light bodied and fairly smooth stout. Nice roasted notes, biscuit malts, some chocolate, and maybe some coffee. Finish is sort of dry with light bitterness. Better than draught Guinness, but that’s not hard to do.

Can: Poured a dark black with a creamy huge light brown head. Aroma is sweet malts and caramel. Taste is sweet coffee bean, roasted malts, and just enough of a tange to keep it inviting. Leaves a sweet taste on the tongue.
