Description
Alvinne is a 1200hl microbrewery in Flanders, Belgium. It has become an official brewery in 2004 and is located in the village of Moen, at the edge of the Mortagne touristic area and in the area where the historic breweries of the old Flemish Brown beerstyle are situated.

Their own yeast strain is called ‘Morpheus’ and was the reason to start experimenting with mixed fermentation, resulting in sour ales. Alvinne’s main mission is now to create innovative sour beers through a new style of Flemish blond sours by using the mixed fermentation method. You could call it the missing link between Oud Bruin and Lambic. Because of this, Alvinne has gained international attention and respect.

We already experimented with over 30 different kinds of fruits, herbs, plants, berries, flowers and vegetables. Next to the sour range, Alvinne has an interesting beer list that were aged on carefully selected used barrels, such as Cognac, Porto, Sherry, Calvados, Brandy, Red Wine and White Wine. Since 2018, we have started our own Membership “Alvinne’s Fellowship Of Exceptional Ales” to give our core fans the priority to get hands on our very exclusive and limited beers.

Second mustard beer in our two mustard beer tasting. It pours hazy deep gold with copper hues and thin off white head. The light aroma has notes of Belgian sugar, lighter colored fruity esters, some dark fruit esters and a hint of mustard. The taste is slick and sweet and moves toward dark fruity esters and a mild background, OK faint background, of mustard spice. I also get some yeasty spice and faint banana. Like the other mustard beer the mustard spice is just too faint. This would taste a whole lot better with a bigger mustard presence.

Bottle that I picked up in Bacchanalia, Cambridge a couple of weeks ago, consumed 24-10-08 Pours dark chocolatey, puddley brown with some very light carbonation. This beer has an unusual sweet shop aroma with icing sugar and yeast thown into the mix. Perfume in nose and in mouth quite weird really bit fruity (dark fruits) not really Impy stouty at all really, some mollasses, its rather strange and whilst ok I’m not that struck on it at all.

Good cream-brown head over nearly black beer with red highlights. Wood, peppery, lactic, dark malts, homely odour, if that means anything to you. Wow - what’s this? Curry, cypress, turmeric, alcohol & some fusels, wood... this is complex as few, but to pinpoint what’s what... definitely balanced. Ginger retronasal. Very well-bodied, but not yet viscous; slick, creamy MF. Very nice beer, near impressive. Difficult to find, no doubt, but definitely worth searching for.

Intense pink head over clear, ruby-red beer. Cherry nose, cherry skins & kernels, slight lactic nose, but essentialy fruity. Just love it - and now put REAL in front of every time I’ve used the word cherry, please. Dry, but quite fruity cherry flavour, some slight cookie malts behind. Lipsmacking cherries’ finish. Mineral water quality, spritzy, refreshing. Excellent fruitbeer by Alvinne. In fact, both among the best ever tasted from this brewery, and among the best not-lambic based kriekbieren available.

330ml bottle bought at GBBF 08 (BSF) and consumed back home in Tromsø while reading the latest edition of Beers of the World. When settled in the glass. the beer reveals a slightly hazy, golden body under a frothy, white head. Fragile lacing on the glass. Very cloudy second pour. Modestly aroma of bitter and sweet fruits. Well balanced fruity taste containing peaches and lemon, ending with a touch of yeasty tartness. Soft carbonated and dry texture (11.10.2008).
