Can. Unfortunately Mack has a preference for canned beer. On the other hand, this is probably the way for Mack to survive in the Norwegian beer scene. Mack also has a series of "specialty" beer, and some of them reaches the stores all over the country. Points to Mack for that. Høstøl is a clear, dark golden beer with a nice dense, white head. Aroma is malty, with hints of hay and some cooked vegetables. Flavor has a weak sweet maltyness. Light bitterness in the finish. (051231)

Bottle: Slightly hazy, amber coloured, thin, white foamy layer; grainy, bready nose with traces of cardboard; very light bitter flavour, some sweetness detectable; light bodied to watery; short, thinnish grainy finish with a very faint bitterness. A pretty drainpour.......

330 ml bottle. Pale golden colour, fluffy head. Strong smell (I hesitate to use the word "aroma") of grit and extremely over-cooked vegetables. Nasty. Flavour is typical n/a lager, "boiledness" / over-cooked vegetables again, too sweet. Just a faint bitterness in the finish. Bad.

On can - 0.5 l. Contains sediments and the can has pouring instructions. Golden colour with a pretty white head. Fruity aroma and taste. Refreshing. A sourish metallic aftertaste.

Canned. Dark golden, a bit amberish colour with mediumsized white head. Caramellish malts in aroma with weak hoppy notes. Some fruity notes in flavour, except for the sweet malty and hoppy flavour. Hops grown in the end. Surprisingly dry palate too.

Can. Copper color and a small off-white head. Aroma is way too grainy, with sweet malt too. Roasted, sweet and caramelly flavor, but also here the grains come through. Sweet and bitter finish, unfortunately with grainy notes here too. Medium body. (051204)

Medium off-white head of large bubbles; clear, dark red body. Sweet malty aroma, notes of bread; faint notes of coffee. Not that much aroma. Sweet taste, with some off notes, maybe some butter. Faint bitterness, faint burntess. Not very much taste, and some of what is there isn’t entirely right. Well. It’s OK, I guess. A disappointment, this, as some of the other Mack stuff is quite good.
