Bottle from the brewery shop, thanks to Todd for hooking me up! Deep amber color with a decent sized but short lived bubbly white head. Clean caramel maltiness with a faint spicy earthy aroma. The flavor is sweet and a bit cloying up front, but the spice of the chili peppers cuts through that like a hot knife through butta! Light earthy flavor, little to no hops to be found and a lingering spicy pepper on the palette long after each sip. I couldn’t drink a lot of this but I love the peppery spice and heat.

Bottle from the brewery store, thanks Todd for helping me procure this brew. Deep golden color with a slight haze and a huge bubbly white head that slowly dissipates. Aromas of earth, funk, light fruit, and a hint of grainy malt. The flavor is lightly sweet up front with a faint fruity flavor that tastes like tart cherry. Earthy funky with bits of pepper. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation. The brett is quite mild but it is there. This is still a really nice farmhouse ale.

Deep purple, orange and light brown coloured body with a very rich, five centimetre tall tan head - super wierd in colour - funky at best. Aroma of spices, curacao, malt, flowers and some odd fake sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt, metal, cardboard, flowers, funk and wierd spices - odd. Aftertaste shows the glimmer of curacao, but mostly odd malt and funky spices - and that’s it. Overall, a very very poor offering. I’m not sure what they meant by this, but this needs to never be bottled again, especially by Smuttynose proper. Do NOT be fooled by the high ratings per style - this one is awful no matter what it’s characterised as - this isn’t a Premium Lager, but it IS bad. I sampled this 37,5 cL split bottle purchased yesterday at New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 19-June-2015 for US$7,25 sampled a day later in my hotel room here on the LES of New York on 20-June-2015.

New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle: pours copper with a loose white head. Aroma is light fruitiness, straw, and lager. Taste is somewhat hoppy but not full fledged IPL in my opinion. Not bad.

Bottle from Bert’s Cloudy Pink tinged liquid with a giant bubbled white head that dissipates almost instantly. Tart berries, lemons, a hint of funk and just a touch of bread deep underneath. The flavor is quite tart with lemons, but the residual fruity sweetness helps counter that nicely. Medium to light body with a spirited level of carbonation and a puckering tart mouthfeel. Nice refreshingly tart beer.
