Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. We are, by nature, the definition of artisanal brewing: we’re not bound by stylistic guidelines, just our own imagination and the ingredients we can access. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,300 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks.

750ml corked and caged bottle from the lcbo. Pours a slightly Cloudy reddish purple, with a small slightly pinkish white head. Incredibly tart, loads of earthy thyme, big berry notes, light lemon, with some hints og of mint. Very sour finish, light funk, thyme is very strong as it warms, the berries are still strong and prevalent, and the finish is minty with notes of earthy pine. Quite complex and interesting.

Corked and caged 750ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a slightly cloudy gold, with a large, lacy white head. A big, pungent blast of wet hay, and funk hit you right off the bat. Within there is some lemon zest, malted wheat, white wine, and earthy, semi sweet oak notes. mouthfeel is very lively, and crisp. Semi dry, vinous, and finishes incredibly sour. The chardonnay is a bit lost, there are notes of vinous white grapes, and oak, but they are subtle, the funky, lactic, lambic style flavours dominate.

Corked and caged 750ml from the lcbo. Cloudy orange pour with a large white head. Very sour nose. Lots of stone fruit, some horse blanket, wet hay, wet grass, loads of oak, hints of spice and vanilla and a sweet apricot. Lovely mouth feel, perfect carb. Finish is very funky, loads of brett, tart fruit, earthy oak, and some vinous notes. Light spice, sour stone fruit, incredibl complex and very drinkable for the alcohol content. Incredible stuff.

Hazy dark orange pour, small off white head. Aroma is tart, sour wheat, lots of spice and floral herbs. The rose petals and hibiscus seem lost, but there is a distinct spiciness that is quite nice. It's sour, but not over powering, a solid pucker in the end. White pepper and red peppers corns with a tangy stone fruit finish.

750ml corked and caged bottle from the lcbo. Pours a very dark red, almost brown, with a medium beige head. Aroma is bold cherries, balsamic vinegar loads of oak and sour vinous cherry notes. Soft carb, vinous mouth feel, full and very sour. Huge oak notes, lots of red wine notes, very tart, vinegar, cherries..... One of the best in the style I've ever had. Not for the faint of heart. A true acquired taste.

2009 750ml.
Hazy orange, small beige head. Big tart aromas of apricots and many tropical fruits. Big funky esters. Carb is a tad high. Sourness and tartness are great, not over the top, just right. Touches of barnyard funk. Great stuff.
