Cask at the Admiral Benbow, Shrewsbury. Very light gold with a fair bit of white head and lots of uneven lacing. Light lemony malt aroma. Taste is bittersweet. A bit of citrusy hop with slight tropical fruit suggestions is in sharp contrast with the sulphurous character in the finish. I love these smaller breweries and wish them well, but I thought this was only slightly above average. I probably wouldn’t have it again although it’s worth trying once.

13th June 2015: hand-pulled cask pint at The Crown Inn, Oakengates. Clear and bright amber body, the white head staying and producing some heavy lacing. Fairly sweet for an IPA and on the fruity side, no idea what hops are used but they must be aromatic rather than bittering because it had no hop bite or dryness to talk about. Pleasant and tasty, but not an IPA as I know them.

A rather tired light ale at the Crown, Newcastle (on Clun), not a great deal to it but saitisfying nonetheless

Average pint of old school bitter out in the wilderness at Anchor, Anchor - arguably the highest pub in Shropshire (some claim differently)

1st May 2015: hand-pulled half-pint at the Crown Inn, Oakengates. Pure blonde body, bright, clear and clean: on top white head that hung around. Decent blend of aromas and flavours with the malts just about beating the semi-bitterness from the hop content. Mild fruity notes in the nose and taste gave the blend a pleasant and satisfying feel to it.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the Cock Hotel, Wellington Shropshire on 29th April 2015. Golden to light amber pour with a dense white head. Hop led brew with a spicy citrus feel to the flavours and aromas. A lot better than most golden citrusy flavoured beers out there at the moment.

21st April 2015: cask half-pint in The Admiral Benbow, Shrewsbury. As the name suggests, this is a black brew: the head a beige foam blanket. Malty and fairly dry in nature, some liquorice and chocolate notes in both the nose and taste, Decent, basic Stout without any creaminess or sweetness.

Cask @ The Admiral Benbow, Shrewsbury [280115]
Caramel brown cola, clear, bubbly beige head
Aroma of soft roasted malts, touch of coffee, dab of dark malt
Taste of roasted malts, some soft dark malts, quite roasty, dab of coffee grounds, touch of bitter chocolate
Palate - Light body, bit oily, smooth, fairly bitter roast. Finish as main flavour, soft roast
Overall - Quite decent, going into mild territory, bit roasty for me, I prefer more dark malt sweetness
