Bottle, 375ml, from trade with Bryne. A lightly sparkling pale golden colored cider with no head. The aroma is quite sweetish, with apple juice doing most of the work. Some apple pie, grass, lemon juice and hints of apple jam too. Quite acidic on the palate, not as carbonated as expected judging from the label description, dry and soft, with a touch of alcohol warmth. Apple juice, apple jam, lemon juice hints, grass, alcohol, woody notes and tannins in the flavor. Sweet apple finish with quite a lot of acidity. Nice indeed. 221218

Bottle, 375ml, from trade with Bryne. A headless, lightly sparkling golden colored cider. Apple juice, pear juice, flower notes, some lemon, hints of alcohol and grass in the aroma. A vague touch of apple cores too. It's full bodied and lightly warming, nicely carbonated and with a little sour sting. Quite high carbonation level actually, but not exaggerated, it's more palate cleaning than anything else. There's a light alcohol touch to the flavor, hints of grass and apple cores too, with notes of green raisin, green apple peel, pear and even some lemon juice. Mostly fresh apple and apple juice though. Quite long finish with most of the sweetness washed away by the acidity and carbonation. Yet another great cider from Sandalen. 221213

Bottle, 375ml, from trade with Bryne. It pours a thin short-lived white head over a clear golden colored body. Vinous, cellar-ish aroma with a strange sweetish touch. Yeast, raisin, grapes, hay and a good dash of apple. A bit weird aroma, not sure if I like it or not. It's full-bodied and almost buttery on the palate, nicely carbonated and semi-sweet, with a nice fruity sourness. Apple jam, apple pie and lemon hints. Quite long finish. A nice one, but not super nice. 221211

Bottle, 75cl. A clear, still cider, deep golden in color with some white bubbles residing on top, mostly around the rim. The aroma is rather complex and vinous, borderline sake-ish, not alcoholic though. Very flowery, with elderflower being the dominant flower. Citrusy, fainty grassy notes, canned pears, a woody, spiced hint and a good dash of apple too. It's soft and quite velvety on the palate, a bit sweet perhaps, but in the right setting it sure would work. Not much carbonation going on. A touch of alcohol warmth is just adding to the complexity. Flowers, citrus zest hints, some spiced notes, pear and plum, grass and a good dash of sweet apple with a sour twist in the flavor. Lasting finish that feels drier than the initial flavor, and leaves a slight buzz in the head. Except for that, it sure ain't feeling alcoholic in any way. A delicious cider indeed, not your average drinking cider, but a bottle shared with a friend or two is perfect. Blue cheese with honey and walnuts might be a good companion, or perhaps baked figs. Would've loved to taste the two batches this cider is a blend of separately too. Sandalen is sure on of the most innovative and interesting cideries in Norway. 221210

Bottle, 35cl, from trade with Bryne. A clear straw-colored cider with some white bubbles. The aroma has a whiff of sulfur, along with a bit much alcohol. Dominated by ripe apple though, rather heavy, with some apple jam and a touch of generic fruityness and grass. Hints of yellow plum. It’s full-bodied and semi-dry on the palate, nicely carbonated and with a certain acidity kicking in after a few seconds. Apple driven flavor too, with a hint of peach, some apple jam and hay. Faintly funky too, with leather and barnyard notes. Long finish. Initially this felt rather dull, but after a few sips it turned out to be a really fine one. 221102
