A second beer rewatching Live Aid 40 years on, and as Philadelphia has just joined the party it's now 5pm BST on the 13th July 1985! This is a very easy brown ale (to drink and watch The Beach Boys perform at the same time) due to its strength, but not thin, although perhaps a little weak in the style. Nevertheless an underlying sweetness is flavoursome.

Medium bodied, foamy dry & clean..
Malt, oatmeal, raisin, biscuit & chocolate tastes with a bitterly hopped finish.
Very Old School - Good!

On the day I'm drinking this beer in history, in 1852, the US opened its '2nd Mint' in San Francisco - to serve the California gold rush. I didn't rush this golden ale, nothing too notable about it but a pleasant sessionable and very traditional tasting bottle conditioned brew. Low bitterness. Familiar English style hoppiness.

Today is Helen Keller Day in the USA, and it's traditional to hold a charity fashion show to honour the deafblind activist. This beer is a traditional style bitter, something that may come back in fashion in the future, and this easy drinking reimagining of an old recipe is pretty decent. Mild fruits against a dominant bitterness.

Hand-pulled third of a pint at the source on 14th May 2025 (part of a three beer flight). Golden body, almost clear, white affair on top. Slight citrus and floral nose/taste, all subtle and under stated, some malt action too, but again subdued rather than in your face.
