Cask at the Craft Beer Co. It pours clear amber, with a thin bubbly white lace. The nose is fruity hop, wood, resin, some manure and leather. The taste is soft from the start, then you are hit in the face with intense fruity hops, which smoothes out to a warming, tangy bitter finish. The fruit is lemon, lime, kiwi, melon and pear and there is also some wood, varnish, resin, alcohol warmth and oily hop. Soft carbonation, fully body and oily mouth-feel. Takes a few quaffs to get into this one, but it’s worth the effort. Intense and interesting.

Cask, handpump at The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage, Oxon 22nd November 2011 Pours amber, decent clarity not much of a head (please note I had a v.small sample) Crisp, fresh hoppy zing on nose. Tastes is a great bittersweet combination, really works well as it isn’t cloyingly sweet or too thick, the hops balance matters out superbly and yet they are not screaming out in the face and don’t make this too bitter. There is a warmth though you can easily forget that this is 12%, nicely fruity with some dark sticky fruits showing, but the hops continue to add that freshness. Wish I could have had some more though this is a beer you fear would be so easy to consume that things could become rather messy. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov17 4.1

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 21/11/2011. Opaque black with a touch of a tan head. Big dark chocolate and roast malts aroma. Flavour had more chocolate, some sweetish dark fruits and a toasty finish with warming alcohol. Very good.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 14/11/2011. Copper in colour with a slight, off-white head. Big boozy aroma of berry fruit, toffee and citrus hops. Flavour had more caramel sweetness, red fruits, marmalade and bready malts, leading to a warming alcohol finish. Very enjoyable and surprisingly easy to drink for the ABV.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 14/11/2011. Deep gold with a slight white head. Massively hoppy, tropical fruit and grapefruit aroma with some slightly honey sweetness and alcoholic warmth. Flavour had some dense, creamy malts, mango, citrus and pine with a lingering, dry, hoppy finish. Great stuff.

Cask at CP&K. It pours light hazy amber, with a massive white head. The nose is green hop, floral and light cheese. The taste is oily green hop, pine, resin, subtle sweetness, leather, floral, alcohol warmth, ginger and fresh citrus pith, with a long, aggressive bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Tasty.
