Description
Speyside Brewery is based in Moray Speyside, the heart of Scotland's malt whisky country. More than 50 distilleries are within a 30-mile radius of the brewery, using the same water for their iconic whiskies that we use to make our beer.
Founded by chemistry student Seb Jones in November 2012, the brewery produces a varied core range of beers - named after local
icons - as well as popular seasonal beers. We are proud to make them.
Brewery closed in 2020. Relaunched in Summer 2023 with a different beer lineup.

50cl bottle thanks to unstablefable. Pours a light honey colour with a nicely proportioned head. The nose is slightly honeyed with a hint of apple and a touch of biscuits. The taste has toffee and some malty freshness. The palate is light to medium bodied with a lovely crunchy texture and a fresh finish. Overall, good bitter.

50cl bottle thanks to unstablefable. Pours a clear golden with a nicely proportioned head. The nose has a sweet pepper and malt thing going on. The taste has a sweet maltiness and honey with a refreshing finish but not sure what the note is - maybe slightly orangey. The palate is light to medium in body and there’s a creamy texture and a clean finish. Overall, nice balanced if not very exciting.

50 cl bottle thanks to Reza! (Not on ratebeer)BB 28 JAN 2014, sampled on May 14, 2013.Clear copper color, small white head. Malty, sweet, somewhat fruity scent, some tobacco as well. Malty, minerals, a bit fruity taste, dry aftertaste. Bitter finish. Medium though to the spritzy side mouthfeel, medium bitterness.Nice and balanced, very drinkable, doesn’t stand out at all, but indeed well made.

50cl bottle thanks to unstablefable. Pours golden with a very slim head. Nose of honey and cornflakes. The taste has more of the honey nut cornflake. The palate is well balanced - light to medium in body with a creamy texture and a clean finish. Overall, good beer!

Cask @ Bandstand Bar, Nairn [270313]
Straw, clear, thin white pillowy head
Aroma - light sweet pale malts, soft damp hay
Taste - light sweet pale malts, light hay and grassy hop, damp hay, weak flavour for 4.9% abv.
Palate - Light body, fairly oily. Finish as main flavour, sweet pale bit syrupy malt, light hay, slight metallic tail
Overall - Comes across as a below average bland golden ale rather than a lager - disappointing

Cask @ Bandstand Bar, Nairn [130213]
Amber brown, clear, thick dense creamy white head with good lacing
Aroma of soft cereal malts, hint of soft roast, light aroma. Taste of very light soft caramel malts, bit of toffee, light roast grains - I couldn’t get much else out, came across as considerably weak in flavour for the abv. Palate - light body, texture had some creaminess though.
Overall - Just came across as very bland and dull - to be honest I’ve had beers around the 2.8% - 3% range that have had much more flavour. More taste and it had the potential to be good because there’s no brewing defects in there at all...Ramp up the flavour!!!!!

Take 2 Cask @ Mosset 111212 6/3/6/3/12 3.0
OK but it’s a bit too malty for an IPA - not sure about the malts - also getting a metallic tinge in the finish - 3.0
Cask @ Mosset Tavern, Forres. Brewery launch 211112 6/4/7/3/14 3.4
Copper amber, clear, frothy white head with good lacing
Aroma - Soft citrus hops, soft caramel malts, fairly light aroma
Taste - Citrus hops, light grapefruit, soft zesty hop, dab of grassy hop, caramel malts, quite malty for an IPA, getting a tiny herbal note too. Alcohol is a little noticeable.
Palate - very soft carb, medium body, texture a little oily. Finish as main flavour, quite dry with some extra bitterness
Overall - This is a good start and I preferred it to the Lager.
