Description
Speyside Brewery is based in Moray Speyside, the heart of Scotland's malt whisky country. More than 50 distilleries are within a 30-mile radius of the brewery, using the same water for their iconic whiskies that we use to make our beer.

Founded by chemistry student Seb Jones in November 2012, the brewery produces a varied core range of beers - named after local
icons - as well as popular seasonal beers. We are proud to make them.

Brewery closed in 2020. Relaunched in Summer 2023 with a different beer lineup.

Keg at Casc, Aberdeen. It pours ever so slightly hazy deep golden with little evidence of a head. The aroma is oily, sappy, sticky, resinous, ripe citrus, grapefruit, touch of marmalade, green herbal accents and some meatiness. The taste is slick, oily, sappy, resinous, green, herbal, grassy, bitter - sweet, pithy, zesty, grapefruit, bitter waxy rind and some prickly peppery spice with a dry, toothy finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and fairly heavy mouth feel. Sits a bit heavy and oily for the style. Ho hum. Hopefully Speyside can step up from what feels like quite a disappointing relaunch....

Keg at Casc, Aberdeen. It pours clear lager yellow with a small, but sturdy white head. The aroma is bit sweaty, farty even, pale toasted grain, cheap doughy white bread, rich tea biscuit and something grassy/herbal. The taste is quite crisp, dry, has a certain sharpness, lemony citrus zing, pithy, zesty, custard cream biscuits, lemon curd, toasty grain and dull sweetness with a dry, pithy finish. Average body and carbonation. Better than a macro offering, but fairly so-so overall.

Keg at Casc, Aberdeen. It pours clear golden - amber with a fluffy white cap. The aroma is biscuity malt, rivita, nutty, toasty grain, cereal, supermarket and touch of dried fruits. The taste is dry, toasty grain upfront, bitter - sweet, dull caramel, brown bread, biscuit, rivita, dusty, leafy hops and a touch of spice with a short, dry finish. Average body and fine carbonation. A fairly run of the mill bitter by all accounts. Drinkable enough mind you.

Bottle from Wrekin Whiskies, Shrewsbury. Deeper golden with an extremely thin head. Has some citrus, but is generally an uninspiring and slightly dry tasting lager styled brew.
