Bottle courtesy of Tpaliga: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium brown foamy head with low retention but good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt is pretty dominant with some light coffee notes also noticeable. Taste is quite dry with limited chocolate and coffee note and a medium bitter finish. This is like an imperial take on a dry stout, which is probably not something that I’ve really been looking for. Interesting but still way too dry for my taste buds. Re-rate 2019 at the brewpub: A big improvement over my memories. Loads of black chocolate and roasted malt notes with high drinkability.

12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 1998 vintage. Poured a clear copper color with an off white head. The aroma was sweet and a bit fruity. Smells like a Barleywine. This beer has a nice Barleywine flavor too with a dark fruitiness, caramel malts and a hint of pine hops. The flavor seems to end with a bit of a woody character.

On tap at Pike Pub, Seattle. Black, lasting tan head. Smokey aroma, bacony aroma. Bit of sourness in mouth, liquorice, riding over the top of coffee dominated dark malts, espresso, bitterdark choc flavours. Bitter finish. Great balance of liquorice juicyness and bitter dry malt finish. Some hop in evidence on finish. Excellent stout. Got everything, good complexity

On tap at Pike Pub, Seattle. Amber with lasting beige head. Candy sugar, syrupy malt aroma. Some weird vanillary malt in mouth. Very light smoke. Actually I quite like the flavours. Malts are balanced by a tingly hop finish. Best tasting in the mouth so far of the Pike beers.

On tap at Pike Pub, Seattle. Copper, beige head. Earthy hop grapefruit, cascadey, resinous. Reasonable in mouth. Intense IPA hop finish with more grapefruit. Very astringent. Good intensity. Malts disappear relatively quickly to leave astringent earthy hop finish. It’s fine if a little basic and simple

On tap at Pike Pub, Seattle. Golden with off white head. Attractive grapefruit hop aroma. Nice in mouth grapefruit and tangerine flavour. Great tasting beer, hops on end are not too extreme, bit juicier than JHB, bit fuller malt, but nearly as good. Very drinkable.

tap at the brewpub - Pours black with a moderate, enduring tan head. The aroma is roast malt and coffee. This full bodied brew has a taste to match and the coffee flavor is at just about the right moderate level. The finish is mildly dry and bitter. Good stout.

tap at the brewpub - Pours reddish-amber with a thin head that has some lacing. The aroma is primarily of caramel malts. The flavor is similar with a touch of fruitiness and a smidgen of spice. The ale has a medium body and a lightly carbonated feel leading into a fairly mild finish.
