Donkergeel bier zonder schuim. Smaak is warm en krachtig, zoet en heel licht bitter met iets van mandarijn, wat vanille en banaan. Als je van zoet houdt dan is dit echt een heel fijn bier.

Kaapse’s standard imperial stout aged on Speyside whisky barrels (which one remains unspecified), from tap at Dok. Pale yellowish beige, moussy, opening head leaving a firm ring and a thin veil behind, jet black robe. Aroma of bitter chocolate, toffee, whisky indeed and clearly so, cigar ashes, dried thyme, pipe tobacco, coffee grounds, dried dates, vanilla-scenting oak wood, old tea. Sweet onset, candied dates, dried blackberries and old raisins, quite stingy carbonation for style but still full, oily mouthfeel; layers of ‘fondant’-chocolatey, walnutty and caramelly malts, developing a firm coffeeish roastedness without becoming overly bitter – and working very well with the tannic, vanilla-ish oak wood and warming, boozy whisky. Ashy, leathery and herbally-hoppy notes appear too, but the black chocolate, coffee and whisky effects dominate. Powerful, well-constructed, old school ‘impy’ – I love this.

Can from advent calender. Dark brown with small beige head. Lots of caramel, some toffee, dates. Typical weizenbock with some extra chocolate and hops maybe? A bit banana, over and cinnamon. Not as sweet or boozy as you would expect from a 12% version. Solid body but to too syrupy. Quite nice, maybe a bit too bitter but enjoyable.

Bottle, from the brewery taproom. Pours deep brown towards black with a small tan head. Aroma: roasted malt, oats, chocolate, dark fruit, light boozy. Taste: moderate sweet & bitter, roasted malt, milk & dark chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruits, oats, little nutty, some booze. Medium to full bodied with light carbonation, creamy mouthfeel.
