Description
Hanssens Artisanaal is the oldest independent geuze blender in the whole world. At Hanssens, no beer is actually brewed! Instead, they pursue a profession that was very important in the history of lambic style beers, they are solely blenders of beer.

Hanssens takes this a step further, and actually blends batches from different breweries in their area. This used to be a very common practice, but Hanssens is now the oldest remaining blender. They bring to this endeavor a variety of barrels, some up to one hundred years old, and a passion and a love for the tradition of Geuze and Lambics.

Draught, at WSF
Clear, pink to red body. Aroma of acetic acid, raspberry, cherries, wood, hints of vanilla... quite nice. Complex and well balanced aroma. Harshly sour, lightly sweet flavour, mainly of acetic acid (bit too much).

Bottle courtesy of hellbilly. Thanks! Pours with a still body and no head. Beneath is a hazed burnt gold body. Aroma is floral with honey and mead notes, some attic, light barnyard and acidic lemon. Taste is weird and funky with vinegar notes, acidic, tannic and woody. Light carbonation. I like both the gueuze and mead slightly better by themselves.

Cloudy ruby with basically no head. Aroma has a whiff of lacto, but is mostly black currants, other berries and delicate sweet flowers. Deceiving! The flavour is extremely sour (too much), although the berries are still there. Lasting aftertaste of complex funk and berries.
