Description
Hanssens Artisanaal is the oldest independent geuze blender in the whole world. At Hanssens, no beer is actually brewed! Instead, they pursue a profession that was very important in the history of lambic style beers, they are solely blenders of beer.

Hanssens takes this a step further, and actually blends batches from different breweries in their area. This used to be a very common practice, but Hanssens is now the oldest remaining blender. They bring to this endeavor a variety of barrels, some up to one hundred years old, and a passion and a love for the tradition of Geuze and Lambics.

375 ml. bottle at wine frig temperature. Very sour aroma with apple? Not getting strawberry. Hazy orange gold color with no head. Thin to medium body with very light and smooth carbonation. The flavor is only mildly sour, and there is definitely strawberry - but not like that of a sweet fruit lambic. This is really rather dry, and the sour is accompanied by strawberry to the finish. The lasting taste is something like strawberry seeds. Seems a bit acidic - like lots of vitamin C. It all smooths and blends as time goes by.

37.5 cL bottle, thanks to Ungstrup. Pours golden and clear orange with no head. Aroma is dry, woody, horseblanket and barnyard. Flavour is quite dry and a distinct acidity towards the finish. Finish holds a real heavy citric feel, very dry and acidic finish. Lacks some complexity and refinement to be fantastic.7-4-7-4-15

37.5 cL bottle, thanks to BelJohansen. Pours hazy yellow to orange with no head. Clean strawberry and horseblanket aroma. Flavour holds a nice strawberry flavour to a classic lambic flavour of horseblanket and a slight dry woodynote into the finish. Very nicely balanced and mild. 7-4-8-4-15

Now this is a perfect example of what I consider to be beer. Big, bad, and stimulating! Impressions start with the chapagne bottle then follows with an unrefined backstall aroma that cannot be described. Big fermenting fruit from an old open barrel in the barn. Looks like a cloudy american lager or darker wheat. Really nice creamy carbonation. Oh my, what a taste impact! Not girlie sweet in any way though wonderfully tart. Hides the alky content rather well, it’s more like drinking rotting fermenting something, but in an enjoyable way. Just plain easy to drink and fun to be with. DEE LISH! Finish is a quarky mackentosh fruit peel quagmire.

Light red colour, with a small white head. Some leather, cherry, earth and grass in the aroma. Very sour cherry flavour, lots of complex funky notes, from earthy to wood and leather, leading to a fruity aftertaste.

Bottled. An unclear orange beer with a thin light yellow head. The aroma is sweet with notes of wood and grapefruit, while the flavor is acidic with notes of wood. The acidity burns slightly in the throat.

Hmm, well this is different. First off, I fell in love with the nose, with a nice farmhouse funk rounded out by a very well defined sweet honey aroma that tended floral. The flavor took a u-turn however, with a milder presence of funk and an unusual pickled olive flavor to go with it. Slightly cheesy, like a good blue cheese. Very dry, with a moderately hard acidity: sour but it won’t hurt. Golden orange color with quite a bit of effervescence foaming up in the glass before settling down again quickly. Surprisingly, the palate was not very carbonated, and it sat a bit thick and still on the tongue. Moderately refreshing, too bad it wasn’t hotter today.

Pours deep gold into a Tumbler. No head. Strawberry and mild funk aromas. Slight tingly sweet strawberries upfront which quickly turns to cheesy lambic and then back to a tart strawberry.
