Drought. Reddish amber with small foamy beige head, slight caramel aroma, fizzy, caramel-roasted malt taste, long finish. Nice ending with a bite.

From tap at the Union Square location. Pours hazy brown with a small off white head. Aroma is mild fruity and toasted malty. Vague annis seed like note. Toasted malty, bitter, light grassy. Herbal, liqouriceand toasted malty finish.

From tap at Union Square location. Pours clear and golden brown with a thick and off white head. Aroma is roasted malty and light breadish. Caramelish, medium dry, vague breadish. Toasted toffee malty. Mild sweetness into a light bitter and mainly toasted malty finish.

18th Jan 2013: my last beer in the Heartlands New York outlet under the ESB. Looked good: dark and mean, the beige head setting it off nicely. Malts all the way in the nose: roasted and over toasted with some hints of both coffee and dark chocolate within. Those hints in the aroma came out in the taste also: rich coffee flavours with a dark chocolate biscuit feel. Very drinkable and smooth in the mouth, a pleasant way to end a mini-session before more sight-seeing during the afternoon.

18th Jan 2013: Heartland’s New York outlet under the ESB. Fairly pale yellow with a wispy head, slight haze to the pour. Citrusy nose, very floral too. Taste followed the aromas: citrus notes and a floral feel to the flavours. Body was crisp and almost sharp, refreshing and thirst quenching, but not really interesting or different to many US brews of this style.

18th Jan 2013 finds me in New York and the Heartland tap under the ESB. I found this to be their beer that most suited my taste buds. Good colouring, red and clean, on top a beige head of foam. The aroma was malt infused nuts with caramel topped toffee apple. The taste was also on the sweet side , but the hops gave it a more semi-bitter feel after the roasted malts calmed down in the mouth. Flavoursome and most enjoyable.

18th Jan 2013: New York, ESB location. Hazy/cloudy pale yellow, a bit of a white crown on top. Vanilla esters in the aroma and taste: overall a bit sweet and not impressed. Thin bodied and wishy-washy in general: this was not to my taste at all. It lacked character and any strong flavours to get into. Refreshing it maybe but I wanted something to quench my thirst and give me a reason to have another one.
