Description
Sea Cider is a farm-based cidery located on the Saanich Peninsula just minutes from Victoria, on Vancouver Island. Our ten-acre farm is home to over 1,300 apple trees, made up of over 50 varieties of heritage apples.

Sea Cider opened its farm gate for business in 2007 when owner Kristen Jordan purchased the property with a vision of creating an organic farm and orchard and producing traditional fermented artisan ciders. Since then, we’ve grown to an annual cider production of over 7,000 cases and growing. We continue to pride ourselves on crafting traditionally fermented ciders from organically grown apples, and our award-winning cider is now available throughout B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Washington State, Illinois, and Oregon.

750mL bottle, split 4 ways, pours a clear faint yellow with no head. Aroma and flavour of potent ginger, dry pears, sort of a lemongrassy note, and a dry gingery finish. Enjoyable, but too gingery.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours amber with a slight haze and no real head. Pleasantly inteanse aroma of sweet apples, brown sugar and....rum?. Medium body, low carbonation, pleasant notes of intense, overripe apples. Slightly tart and again a subtle edge of the rum barrel. Lovely indeed, bordering Ice Cider territory. 180911

Bottle 37,5 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours a clear orangey amber. Sweet and syrupy apple aroma with quite some alcohol heat. Solid body, intense apple and vanilla notes, glazed toffee apple notes. The booze is roaring and this actually feels stronger than the 13.3%! Nice, but far from the complexity found in the best ice ciders. 110911

Corked bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver; 16% ABV
The color is copper, with pinkish hue. Deep apple aroma, with some acidity; fruity and sugary trait, but not to the next stage like other Ice Ciders; hazelnuts as well. Very sweet; it has a high acidic level, high tannins, and medium to strong alcohol presence, but these don’t blend perfectly. I wonder if this is a fortified Ice Cider. Good, but not impressive.

Corked bottle from Spinnakers Spirit Merchants, Victoria; 19% ABV
Yellow color, with beautiful legs. Light aroma of Calvados with a touch of anise. Full sweetness, the mouthfeel gains some balance by the strong alcohol presence, although this also gives a boozy note; some flavor of apple juice (no fruity freshness though), candies, cassonade, a hint of anise.
This is more similar to sweet Calvados than cider, but it’s a pleasant liquor.
