Great hazy amber and copper coloured body with a bit of a rust glow and an almost perfect, two centimetre tall tan head - this looks like a good IPA. Aroma of fresh cascade hops with a bit of pine, resin and pineapple in the mix, a good malt base and a bit of a floral nose as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive piney and floral hop notes that fade fairly quickly and show a good malt backbone, quite a bit of sweetness and a definite floral note. Aftertaste shows the sweetness through honey, the hops through pine and the malt through caramel - nice, but showing much less hops than I’d expect from a PNW IPA that is consumed super fresh. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 11-January-2013 for US$3.99, sampled at home in Washington on 17-January-2013.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Black color, with giant brown head, difficult to pour. The aroma, with some roasted malts, gives an impression of freshness. The mouthfeel is smooth, also because most of the carbonation is gone into the foam; strong flavor of roasted malts, coffee, some cardboard; there is a light sourness from the dark malts; correct bitterness.
Quite good.

Cloudy pale blond color, small creamy head. The aroma is mild, some wheat and some lemon. Dry mouthfeel; light flavor of wheat, with a delicate lemony touch; low bitterness, although adequate to this beer.
Simple but refreshing.

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, London. Pours rich brown with a bubbly, tan head. Tangy dark berries in the aroma, faint chocolate. Biting tang to the flavor, some dirt, licorice and more berries. Medium bodied with fine, tingly carbonation. Tart finish with some anise seed and licorice, further berries, light dirt. Very solid. Some dark sugars lurking around. Lasting tart grab. Nice.

On nitro tap at the Alibi Room, pours black with a thick, creamy tan head. Aroma of oats, lactic notes, roast and some metallic qualities. Flavour is a bit metallic, with oats, roast and some lactic acid providing a hint of undesirable sourness. Not sure if there's something wrong with this as it poured with a ridiculous amount of head. Still decent, but nothing memorable.

The ChrisO small midweek tasting. Semi opaque dark brown beer. Little pale tan head. Light dry palate. Pretty sour and lemon citric. Sherbet citric sharpness. Crisp finish. Interesting if a tad to sharp.

Bottle at Chriso - 25/09/12. Pours a solid dark brown approaching black with a thin tan head. Nose full of dark soured fruits and a little spice, some toffee in the background. Taste follows, zesty lemon in there, tarte tasting fruits of a citrus nature. Medium bodied with light spritzy carbonation. Astringent finish, definately one that makes the mouth pucker!

Bottle at ChrisO. It pours opaque dark brown, with a thin light tan head. The nose is lightly sour, wood, toasted coconut, almond and sweet treacle. The taste is initially strong red grapefruit, lemon and zesty citrus peel, which evolves into roasted malt, filter coffee, liquorice and a hint of coconut, with a lightly tart finish. Truly a beer of two halves. Medium body and lively carbonation. Rather tasty!

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours dark brown/black with ruddy glints and a slight tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, burnt malt, and maybe coffee. Full bodied or close enough. It’s slightly salty, has pretty dark fruit, burnt malt, and perhaps a hint of coffee. It’s not on the dry side in the finish, but it’s not all that sticky sweet either. There’s a nice almost bitter tang in the finish. Arguably well within style.
