St. Peter's is an independent brewery founded in 1996 by John Murphy in former agricultural buildings adjacent to St. Peter’s Hall in St Peter, South Elmham, near Bungay, Suffolk, England. Siting the brewery at St. Peter’s was ideal because of the excellent water quality from our own deep bore-hole. Locally malted barley is used, together with Kentish hops, to produce a range of classical beers (bitters, mild etc.) as well as some more unusual beers such as honey porter and fruit beer.
Fun fact: The oval shape of its signatory 500 ml bottle is based on an 18th-century gin bottle from Gibbstown, by the Delaware River near Philadelphia, USA.
Bottled. Dark brown colour, big brown creamy head, lacing. Mintish honey aroma with some hints of smoke. Sweet honeyish smoky flavour. Smoky finish and aftertaste. Sweet honey and smoke all along the way.
Bottle Light milk chocolate aroma. Quite black, very low foamy brown head. Cool bottle. Roasted chocolate and coffee edges. Not entitely well balanced. Medium body. Chocolate and coffee aftertaste.
A red beer with next-to-no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of berries, and so is the flavor, where cowberries stands out. The end is dry, but the body is thin.
Pour is orange with no head. Aroma is both malty and hoppy leaning more towards the malt.. Flavor is also malts and hops but the hops are stronger here. Over all pretty light and watery. Nothing to get excited about but it does not offend.
[At Jyske Øldage 2004, Kolding] An amber beer with a disappearing white head. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel. And so is the flavor, while the mouthfeel is flat.
Bottle. A very nice coffee malt aroma. Reddish brown color - clear with little head. A strong coffee malt flavor throughout - mildly bitter. Nice full body. Very enjoyable.
Bottle: Poured a dark brown/black ale with almost no carbonation and therefore no head. Aroma is mostly comprised of roasted malt. Taste is quite simply some roasted malt, with some bitterness at the end and a very light watery finish. The alcohol doesn’t really show and the body is just above the average. Overall, this is not a bad beer but nothing great either; probably an improvement over some other beers I had from this brewery.
Clear yellow color, short white head. Very strong aroma of sharp and sweet hops, almost vegetable like. Taste is sweet bitter, bit malty. Very odd brew.
