Description
We’re a friendly bunch of Yorkshire folk with a passion for all things ale. Since 2015, we’ve been driven by a passion for innovating ales, while sticking to the traditional methods and high quality that you know and love.
The North Riding Brewery is based in the village of Snainton, just outside the seaside town of Scarborough, Yorkshire. Every day we’re blessed with chocolate box views of God’s own county and refreshing sea air. You could say there’s a little taste of Yorkshire in every brew.
Our production process is simple. We currently brew three times a week in our microbrewery, focusing on hop-forward modern ales with the finest ingredients.
Our mission is to delight your taste buds with a little love from Yorkshire. We’ll drink to that.
First brewed during March 2015 using a 10BBL plant. Initially it was based at the Betton Business Park, East Ayton, Scarborough. It is a sister brewery to North Riding Brewpub. In Summer 2019 the brewery relocated to their current location.
The majority of the output now comes from East Ayton but the brewpub also continues to operate, primarily for small batch beers sold at the pub, test brews and the occasional festival special.

Cask, Shakespeare’s, Sheffield. Clear gold. Frothy, uneven, lasting, white head. Nose has sweet malts. Lots of fruity toffee. Pineapple cube hoppage. Green, leafy hop. Taste is grainy, toffee sweet. Light, hop oil bitterness. Feels oily. More sweetness on the finish with a light oily bitterness.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Clear, deep ruby red. Film of beige head. Nose has Barr’s Dandelion and Burdock, and not a great deal else. Taste is sweet and fruity, with some dryness on the back. Light body. A little thin. Thin, fruity, dry finish. Not for me.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Clear, dark ruby red. No head. Aroma has wet paper. Dr. Pepper. Thinners. Smells horrendous. Taste is wet paper. Flat mouthfeel. Some cherry chocolate on the finish, but it’s beyond redemption. Last few bottles from this brewer have been sub-par. This one takes the biscuit, though. QC needs sorting.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Dull gold. No head. Oh dear. Nose has some of the promised passion fruit. Some peach and mandarin. Light floral note. Sweet granary background. Smells way better than it looks. Taste has some granary sweetness. Light, pulpy bitterness. Juicy palate. A little dull and lifeless, though. Light, juicy bitterness to finish. Thought this might have been a dud, but I was wrong!

Hazy gold beer, good cream colour head. Palate is light, pretty thin and has a fine minerally crispness. Thin malts, touch of creamy sweetness. Minerals. Light orange into spicy orange. Lesser orange peel and a whisper of mango. Light finish. Clean but thin and unsatisfying. A disappointment from this great brewery.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Bright gold. Soft haze. Frothy, lasting, white head. Nose has grainy malts up front. A little yeasty and bready. Hoppage is fairly subdued here. Some notes of lime leaf and peach stone. Hint of pepper. Taste has a little spicy dryness. Light bitter zestiness. Light to medium body. Prickly carbonation. Fairly punchy, lime juice bitter finish.
Earlier Rating: 11/7/2016 Total Score: 3.5
Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. As Motueka Pale Ale. Orangey gold. Light haze. Film of dense, white head. Nose has ripe pear and peach, upfront. Some tinned fruit salad. Sweet and creamy grain. Some notes of spicy herb. Bit of peach stone. It’s fresh and clean, but it doesn’t jump out of the glass. Taste is soft, fruity sweet, with light, floral and spicy bitterness. Medium body. Soft fizz. Finish is long, spicy, slightly earthy bitter. Very decent, but maybe lacking some pop.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Pale orange gold. Light haze. Thin, sticky, white head. Nose has green, leafy hop. Some pineapple. Some grapefruit. Not too big on the fruit, unusually. Taste is light bitter. A little bit of wet paper. Quite a flat mouthfeel. Dull and watery. Light bitter finish. Way off North Riding’s usual standard.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Mostly clear, pale gold. Thin, bubbly, lasting, white head. Nose has soft, hop spice. A little thyme like herb. Hint of lime leaf. Dry grain backdrop. Taste has some sweetness on the lips, but is mostly pithy, crisp, punchy bitter. Like biting into orange peel. Clean, light body. Gets cleansingly dry. Crisp, slightly spicy bitter finish. Perfect as a first beer of the evening!

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Opens with a big pfft. Pours gold with a soft haze. Lots of fine, rapidly rising bubbles. Blotchy, sticky, lasting, white head. Nose has plenty of the promised citrus. Yellow grapefruit. Orange peel. Grapefruit juice. Notes of melon and mango. Light biscuit malt backdrop. Taste has very zesty, lime juice bitterness. Dries out a fair bit. Light, sharp mouthfeel. Cleansing carbonation. More zesty bitterness at the end. Doesn’t pop with hops like some of the other sessioners, but it’s still a great beer at this ABV.
