Pint from the Royal Hop Pole Tewkesbury. Copper coloured with a slight, off-white head. Fruity malt aroma. Flavour started sweet, with plenty of malt but was slightly oily on the palate.

Cask at the Rose & Crown, Sandhurst. Golden amber with a tight cream head; toffee aroma; thick and syrupy with a grainy body, some caramel, and an assertive dry spicy bitterness; leading to a long dry finish. A satisfying pint.

Cask-conditioned at the brewery tap, the Rising Sun, Frampton Cotterell, 18/4/2014. Deep gold with a decent, off-white head. Aroma of pineapple and tangerines with a touch of malty sweetness. Flavour was more of the same, with plenty of fruit up front, some biscuity malts and a dryish finish. Another good beer by an improving brewery.

Cask at the Clachan, Nicholson’s - London. Pours clear, ruby-brown with a filmy tan cap. The aroma holds dry and toasty bread, some leathery fruits. Light sweetflavor with toasty and crunchy brown bread, a bit of scorched beef, raisins, dirt. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Mellow roasted malt finish with hints of dried berries, earth, burnt wood and soft baking cocoa. The overall character is a little wimpy but otherwise it’s fair.
