Description
The Alchemist is a family run brewery specializing in fresh, unfiltered IPA. John and Jen Kimmich originally opened The Alchemist as a 60 seat brew pub in the village of Waterbury in 2003. After eight years of success and growing popularity, they decided to open a small production brewery. Today The Alchemist currently operates two breweries in Vermont and distributes Heady Topper and Focal Banger throughout the state.

Teku showing dark gold with sparse white foam.
The nose shows intense notes of pine resin, cannabis, and grapefruit pith.
The palate is well carbonated and medium bodied. Cannabis and grapefruit pith forwardness throughout with a light pine resin background and a balanced sharp bitterness on the end.

Bottle thanks to Kyle. Pours a cloudy ruby with small pinkish head that lasts. The aroma is cherry skin, wood, funk. Slick body, sweet cherry, funk, nice tartness, enjoyed this.

375mL bottled December 17, 2021. Drunk at the brewery, 1/18/24. Clear blueberry juice with a pinkish head sitting at cover. Spicy, peppery, authentic blueberry with mild lactic and Brett, well-aged and nothing sharp here. Juicy, tart, aromatic, really lovely blueberry expression. Oak is strong in the background. Tart, turning lightly sour with huge blueberry acidity, juice and spice. Wow, that's a shit ton of blueberry...still a touch of acetic character sharpening things, but mostly blueberry, malt and lactic acidity. Very juicy, flavorful, intense. Interesting to use such a high gravity base, but it mostly works. Could probably use another year in barrel and/or bottle, honestly. Just too much acetic, more emerging as it breathes and warms...

Canned Dec, 2023, drunk 1/18/24, at the brewery. Seems clear, dar. Dark beige head to spotty cover. More vanilla than either lactose or roast, thankfully. Rich, chocolatey milk-like with fruity vanilla and moderate coffee character. Clean. Chocolate-vanilla cereal milk. Low but ample toast bitterness. More vanilla, soft and fruity. Lightly sweet, medium bodied, moderate attenuation. Pretty good amount of flavor for its size and the vanilla beans are dynamite. Would like no lactose but it's pretty minimal, at least.

Light yellow, almost clear, a bit of a gusher with coarse white head. Dry, light, a bit bitter, quite hoppy. Citrus and florals, soft, nice.

Very good, nice aroma, sweet notes hit initially and fade to the old Heady. Nicely done.

Can shared by Johnny. Thanks! Slightly unclear orange color, small white head. Aroma is mostly grassy hoppy. Flavor is malts, hops, grassy again, decently bitter. Alright but I don't think it's a true match against the original HT. Cheers nonetheless!

Can at home from J and B Craft Drinks, Amsterdam, 18th November 23. Pours a deep orange haze, firm frothy head. Aroma is really resinous and pithy. Taste is assertively bitter, resinous pine and pithy grapefruit and citrus rind, this is what I like about Alchemist, the haze, but with great bitterness. There is a balance with grainy malts toward the finish, leading to a long bitter and pithy linger. Outstanding
