Clear medium ambercolour, small frothy white head, recedes after a while to a thin layer, good lacing. Aroma malty, grain, toasted, bit of caramel, grass, citrus. Flavour medium sweet and bitter, hint of caramel. Mild bittersweet finish, bit spicy, nice.

The Brewery says this: Poppy Ale is a traditional, full-flavoured bitter in which we have used English Fuggles and Goldings hops to re-create a style of beer that was hugely popular 100 years ago. The bottled beer is 4.5% and the draught is 3.6%. My hand-pulled pint in The Crown, Oakengates on 4th Sep 2014 was a pleasant amber colour with a full and lasting white topping of tight foam. Malt lead in both the nose and taste with the hops blending in nicely to give a balanced and easy drinking traditional style bitter: I liked it.

It’s all very well to name your beer ’hopping mad’, but if you do so, you should apart from the happy bunny on the label also have some nice hops in the beer. This ESB lacks on hopping, it’s a bit flat and malty, not very bitter.

On cask at the Boathouse in Shrewsbury. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head and a slight haze. Nose - flowers and citrus. Taste - more citrus and a green vegetal note too. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - she is indeed a delectable blonde.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Crown Inn, Oakengates on 29th June 2014. Better than the England Football team! This dry, hoppy golden ale went down quicker than Joe Hart in goal but had less bite than Luis Suarez. It had a good body with a full white head of foam, the bitter finish again reminded me of the English team.

Bottled. Golden colour small white head. Aroma is some floral notes and some slight maltiness and some herbal notes. Quite a typical golden ale in many ways, including the flavour. Not much special to see.

Aroma is rather fruity with lots of apricot. Flavour has apricot, hay, some English hops and grainy tones. Feels dry. Nice, but the flavour is a bit short. Also the growing feeling of English hops disturb me a bit here.
