Cask at the Whispering Moon (JDW), Wallington, Surrey on 3rd December 2013. Copper with white shallow lacing head. Pungent, yeasty aroma. Earthy, grassy in-mouth with spice, cabbage, biscuit malts and peppery notes. Sweet and spicy finish. Zingt mouthfeel and medium body.

Cask at Grape Vaults, Leominster, Herefordshire. Dark, clear amber. Foamy, white head. Aroma of sweet malt, some toffee, light citrus. Taste is much the same, but ends quite bitterly.

Cask at the Old Hand & Diamond, Coedway on the England/Wales border. This was like a ghost brew.. slipped down the throat cool and smooth without so much of a whisper of malts, hops or character whatsoever. Disappointing.

Bottle at home in London - shared with Lloyd. Pours clear, dark copper with a small, frothy white tan head. The aroma has bready malts, some light toffee, suggestions of winter spices and ripening berries. Medium sweet flavor, lots of bready and somewhat doughy malts, hints of brown sugar, more berries and other ripe fruits. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, very mild leafy bitterness, bready malts, light cinnamon. Simple but tasty.

Hand-pulled pint with my Dad on 27 July 2013 in the newly re-opened ’Kinnersley Arms’, Leighton, Shropshire. Light amber, but not golden! On top a full but thin white covering. Mild, semi-sweet maltiness to the brew with a hop bitterness undertone. Floral hop nose below the biscuit malt front that carries on into the taste. Went down far too easily and we would have had another but our driver wanted to visit more pubs during the day and we moved on.

Cask (gravity) @ Cambridge Winter Ale Festival 2013, at the University Social Club, Mill Lane, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England CB2 1RX.Clear dark brown - red amber color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, keller. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, keller, caramel, sweet malt, vomit notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20130119]

Cask at the moon under water watford. Golden straw colour bright dense white persistent head. Aroma is dusty hay loft. Some nuts. Flavour is Grainy, earthy hop, touch of spicy hop in the finish. Ok.

One of the 600 bottles produced: 500ml BBD end of May 2013. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 14 Jun 2013,some two weeks later than the brewery recommended. Dull amber body with a full white foaming head. I might have given the beer a chill haze, as I’d had it in the fridge a bit longer than I intended too. Mild malt nose with a herb hop, nutty note. Spritzy and crisp: hop front with a roasted malt middle, the hops reappearing to give a mini-bitter finish. The best of the ’Diamond Jubilee’ special brews that I had: sadly that doesn’t say much because they were a pretty poor bunch on the whole.
