Description
Brewing ceased in April 2022. A Shropshire brewery has shut due to "unfavourable trading conditions".

The Wood Brewery was founded by Edward Wood, his brother and his father in the outbuildings of the Plough Inn in Wistanstow, Shropshire in 1980. Wood’s was one of the founding members of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) and a firm supporter of CAMRA. At a time when there was a surge of keg beer companies flooding the market and threatening the existence of traditional English ale, Wood’s championed the traditionally brewed product and ensured it remained a firm favourite in the county.

Wood’s has been at the forefront of Shropshire brewing since then and continues to be after it was taken over by new owners in 2018. The new owners have worked with the existing team to make a range of impactful and progressive changes to the brewing process and quality control, to ensure that Wood’s beer is of the highest possible quality. By continuing to make consistent and innovative products, the brewery can remain successful in an increasingly crowded market place.

Bottle, at Cardinal. A clear, copper body is topped by a small, beige head. The aroma is malt-driven, slightly bready with caramel and roasted malts. Some dried fruits too. Some alcohol is found in the flavor, which follows the same pattern as the aroma, malty that is. And in a quite nice way. Medium to full body. Malty finish with some roasted notes. A quite decent beer, but I would like some hops to be more evident in it, it gets a little bready and caramelly as it is. (081130)

500ml bottle from Centra Colosseum in Oslo, brought back to Tromsø and shared with Finn. Slightly unclear amber body. Missing head. Ashy dry smell of malts. Some earthy malts in the taste. Shortage of bitterness. Watery palate. Has got some refreshment to it, but overall without character [22.11.2008].

Cask at The Metropole, JDW, Baker Street, Lahndan tahn 29-07-08 Pours reddy/brown in colour with a fruity malty aroma. Fruit comes across in the mouth as does the malt, theres a touch of toffee and a sort of homemade rustic quality about this beer which is ok. Its a very flavoursome beer but I think that I might tire just a little of its flavours after a while.
