500ml bottle (brewed for the Morrisons supermarket chain): best before 1st Feb 2013, poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard during an IPA and Porter tasting evening on 11th Aug 2012. Almost Ruby red in colour with a fading head of small white bubbles. Intense strawberry and red berry aroma, this is one fruity brew (label claims plum and damson flavours): my nose found berries though. The taste was also fruit berries, bitter strawberries mostly for me. Fairly light bodied for a Porter but I thought the beer both different and interesting.

Clear 500ml bottle: best before Oct 2012, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 24th May 2012. The looks a lovely reddy brown (chestnut) colour: on top a full head of bubbles. Chocolate aroma with chestnuts? No, just chocolate really. The taste is bitter chocolate with fizz, add some nutty flavours and you are almost there. Body strength a bit watery for a ’warming winter beer’ but it didn’t detract from what I thought was a very good beer for a supermarket cheapo.

29th June 2010: This beer is brewed for the Morrisons Supermarket chain by Titanic and is going to be released around Easter (hence the Hot Cross Bun type name). The beer is brewed with spices and sultana flavours? The clear glass bottle containing 500ml of beer was poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ vase shaped pint glass. An off white head sat on top of a reddy hued amber body, clear and bright looking. The aroma is very interesting, peppery, cinnamon and hints of treacle. The tase follows along nicely, cinnamon and peppery, with an undercurrent of sweeter molasses/treacle and some mace added for some reason. I found this both interesting and different, really enjoyed it and very good value.

Clear 500ml bottle, best before 25 Aug 2011, drank and reviewed on 03 Nov 2010. Poured into an ’Abbot Ale’ glass tankard. Orange or light amber in colour, thin white head with plenty of carbonisation visible as well as in the mouthfeel. The seasons first hops are used to produce this beer and you can certainly smell fresh hops in the aroma given off. The taste is also a full on hoppy flavour although a semi-sweet malt finish counters the hop bitterness that doesn’t really take over completely. Morrisons (a supermarket chain) and Titanic have an arrangement to produce and sell seasonal brews. It works very well and helps to keep the price sensible too.

Aroma is very fresh, citrusy and hoppy. Flavour has a nice balance. Light and fresh with a sharp hoppy taste and a background of soft, sweet malt.

Bottle at home in London. Pours crystal clear, yellow-gold with a fading, white foam head. Lots of sugary dough, crackers and light grass on the nose. Maybe some straw. Flavor is light but fairly well balanced, with a mild and crispy malt sweetness, subtle hay, very subtle citrus. Light to medium in body with average, tingly carbonation. Crisp and clean finish, light toast, dough, a bit of lingering grass, lightly bitter straw, mild white sugar. A nice beer to drink, but certainly light in character.

500ml bottle. Pours gold with a small head. Aroma is buttery with some bitter hops underneath. Taste is grassy to start. Buttery aftertaste. A little oily.

bottle at home ... copper ... big bubbl;y tan head ... soft spicy hop front ... big raisin nose ... big bitter cinamon front ... juicy toffee malt ... definite spice ... cinamon... hint of clove ... again some rasins... oddly i think this is quite interesting ... reasonably tasty and would be interesting to make a spiced beer loaf with

500mL bottle, pours black with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and a slight metallic note. Flavour reveals the chocolate and vanilla initially, with a bit of that metallic note and a slightly bitter finish. Thin body with an unpleasant metallic, bitter aftertaste.
