20/12/2021. Bottle from Hoppily, Chelmsford. Christmas countdown beer 6. Pours clear mid-dark ruby brown with a small short lasting off-white head quickly settling very uninspiring on the eye. Aroma of malt, toffee, liquorice, molasses, citrus, dried fruit, touch of spice. Moderate sweetness, light roasted bitterness touch of sour. Moderate body, oily watery texture, soft carbonation. Metallic finish. Aroma was ok but otherwise very disappointing.

Half-pint, tap after breakfast at Shakespeare's Head (JDW). Shared with Finn. Stable white head leaving upper part lacing on the glass, clear late straw coloured body. Subdued noble hops and grain on the nose. Careful malt-fruity flavours of noble hops, bread, and wheat. Ripe fruity end. Soft on the swallow. Average. (London 24.11.2021).

Half-pint, cask at Crosse Keys (JDW), shared with Finn after breakfast. Clear amber body, film-type layer, spotty lacing. Moderate smell of grassy hops, semi-dry. Grass and leafy hops to the taste profile. Semi-dry fruity hops to the ending, rounded mouth feel. Straightforward. (London 21.11.2021).

Cask at Sun Inn, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a sizeable cream head and good lacing. Roasted malts and vanilla to the fore in the nose. Flavour in the mouth starts off with dark fruits and chocolate, and then moves on to coffee, treacle and spices. Some Olde English Spangles in there too. Finish is malty and slightly dry. A really good solid porter.
