Pours gold with a small head.Nose shows herbal notes, spicy juniper and doughy wheat.Flavours include spicy herbal juniper, clean bready wheat. Little else. Refreshing though.

From a 330ml bottle on 10/6/2017. Pours jet black with a medium tan head which disappears quickly. Has an amazing, powerful aroma of maple syrup poured on hot pancakes,with a hint of smoke in the background. Arguably the best nose I’ve ever experienced in a beer. In the mouth, it’s a sweet sipper, as you’d expect. Maple syrup is again the dominating feature, but there’s also chocolate, caramel fudge, dates, raisins and vanilla. A moderate, slightly roasty bitterness counters the sweet goodness experienced up front. The palate is a touch syrupy and the carbonation modest. There is a touch of alcohol at the back, but it’s very easy drinking for such a big beer, and the 12% is a surprise. Just a wonderful dessert beer - long, complex and very cohesive. This beautifully illustrates just how far Aussie brewing has come in terms of being able to produce world class beers which push the boundaries. And at around $7 a bottle. it’s a veritable steal from a value standpoint. Like the odd, quirky label too.

Bottle, 12C. Black with a tan head that’s soon about a coat, then less. Aroma has some bread crust and roast but is mainly maple and palm sugar. Medium bodied, lowish carbonation. If anything, the taste is even more dominated by maple sugars. There’s some bitterness and it’s not all that sweet. And there’s a little roast supporting things as best. I can see this and a shot as the makings of a fine affogato. Or 10% of this and 90% whatever the base stout was as a pretty good beer. Not my sort of thing at all.

Bottle from a Melbourne Liqourland. poured a clear medium amber with a broken white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, light floral hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, watery light fruity, woody metallic hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle from a Melbourne Liqourland. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a frothy white head and lots of bubbles. The aroma is malt, cardboard, light hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a light, watery, snunky malt, woody light floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.

Bottle from a Coles, Liqourland, Melbourne. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a thin long-lasting white head. The aroma is skunky stale malt, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, fresh, slightly watery, resin, woody, light watery metallic hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

From a 330ml bottle on 28/5/2017.Pours a clear medium golden with small head. The nose is subdued with a touch of spice being the only element of real note.Take a sip and you get light biscuit malt, citrus fruit and a decent dash of lemongrass and kaffir lime as promised. Medium bodied with reasonably lively carbonation.A reasonably well executed experiment.

Tap at the Boilermaker House, Melbourne. Poured a hazy straw colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light fruit, crushed banana. The flavour is malt acid, grainy yeasty spice and light floral mint hop bitter. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A little spicy and Saison like. Nice but not a classic wit IMO.

Tap at Cookie, Melbourne. Poured a hazy light amber with a thin white head. The aroma is malt, light citrus fruit, grassy hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a dry crisp light spice fruity floral hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

330ml bottle into shaker glass. Golden bronze beer with thin white head. Fine bubbles ascend. Nose of dry malt, grass and pepper. Light body. Finish is lightly hoppy and watery. Nicely bitter with fruit notes but a little thin.
