Bottle. Pours a clear deep ruby amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has some earthy blueberry with a hint of popcorn and earthy grains. Flavor starts with sour blueberry but has some earthy grain that adds a bit of sweetness.

Purchased at Binny’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed with a good friend while bottling some homebrew on a work night before eating dinner at the Southern. This stuff was good, thick, and intense. Appearance is a thick, viscous dark black with a very thin tan/brown head. Aroma is rich in dark chocolate, coffee, along with an apparent hop profile which I think is a rarity in stouts but have smelled this in the other Pipeworks stout I’ve had. Taste is potent and goes down with a moderate bitterness. I thought this stuff was pretty damn good.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 06/11/12. Very dark mahogony brown vergeing on light black with a thin tan head that retains well. Nose of smoked malts, molasses, liqourice, touch of chocolate. Tastes of smoked malts, chocolate, smoked bacon, dark toffee fudge, dark fruit notes. Nice balance with the smoke. Medium bodied, slightly spritzy carbonation which was the one disappointing element of this beer for me. Dry smoked finish, decent stuff overall.

THE Sour and Saison tasting. Hazy gold amber beer. Big pale cream coloured head. Smooth light palate, airy and dry. Quite a milky malt - very lactose. Minerals. Mild black pepper and very mild citrus. Finishes soft and airy. Interesting and tasty combo of milky malt and pepper but the sessionability is low - would not want to tackle a whole bottle.
