Cask at GBBF 2023 - Day 1. Pours clear yellow-gold with a small? Foamy white head. Light to medium sweet flavour with lean pale malts, citrus rind, hay, piney accents. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Balanced finish, more rindy citrus. Nice one.

Brewery draught, 7/1/23. Clear, light blonde-golden. Small, white head, moderate retention. Nose is a really lighthearted, easygoing, but still quite aromatic. Bright lime, but not acidic with hints of yellow tropical fruits, almost kiwi-like. Honey-like malts balance gently. Very clean. Soft, malty, light juice, lime-accented tropical fruits with a touch of spice. Different expression than the usual deep spice and white wine of Nelson, but still really interesting and well-done. Malt texture is soft and the beer is well-attenuated.

Brewery draught, 7/1/23. This was hazy and the Nelson pale ale was crystal clear. Blonde-brass. Small, white head. Really classic, Dupontish nose with a ton of mineral, light sulfur and excellent black pepper. Low clove/banana/bubble gum, as it should be. Clean and very well-expressed. Soft, though with a good graininess with rustic biscuit and light lemony acidity. Black pepper, mineral, sweat...just an all around solidly fermented saison.

Brewery draught, 7/1/23. Clear dark brown. Small, dark beige head, low retention. Hmm, it mostly smells like caramel, maybe a hint of whiskey spice. Some raisin, I suppose. Bready. In the mouth it's watery and thin. Excessively so. Caramel, bread, raisin soaked in water. Almost no barrel character.

Brewery draught, 7/1/23. Ruby-amber colored. Clear. Off-white head quickly falls to cover/ring. Nose is crystal malty. Iced tea, stale bread/stale crackers. Some light Belgian yeast with light pepper. Hints of orange rind. Clean. In the mouth it's completely ruined by the specialty malt. Why you would put that in a delicate grissette is beyond my wildest imagination. Iced tea, stale bread, caramel. Thin texture, as well, also made more possible by the specialty malt.

Can pour from Lazy Dog Beer Shoppe. It's an opaque black with finger-width light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is earthy roasted malt with toffee and milder chocolate with later bitter coffee roast as it warms. Taste is earthy roasted malt with an initial tart element that turns sweet toffee and mild coffee roast at the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste with lingering dryness. Overall, good balance between sweet and bitter (with a little tart) and decent complexity. A bit too carbonated.
