Dark amber/red with a short lived off-white head. Sweet aromas of toffee and red fruit. Flavour was cloyingly sweet, almost treacly, with an alcoholic kick at the end. Not a beer I would drink again.

Pours a dark amber colour with a small amount of light yellow head. Malty aroma, with a slight wiff of the alcohol. The taste is well balanced between bitter hop notes and alcoholic kick and sweet malt and fruit flavours. Rather nice and quite drinkable considering the strength.

Bottle, at Cardinal. Malty, toffeeish aroma with hops to balance it. The flavor is a bit more hoppy, but else it is the same malty and toffeeish thing. Medium body and a malty finish that could use more hops. And the pour was clear, golden with an off-white head. Quaffable one. (070623)

Cask, various occasions at The Swan, Bicester. Copper colour with red hue, bit sweet, with plenty of toffee flavours, malty finishes bitter.

Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. A copper colored beer with a beige head. The aroma is sweet mlaty with notes of fruit and a light touch of bisquits. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of fruit, caramel, bisquits, and a flowery hoppy note.

[i]Cask at The Penny Black, Bicester JDW pub 13-08-07 [/i] Poured gold with no head at all, bit too cold aroma was some hops but very little to speak off, some bitterness but again coldness really not helping, but despite all of that and even having warmed up this was a very boring beer.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Bottle #625260 Copper coloured body with a cream head which faded quickly; aroma of malt and caramel; thick and oily in the mouth, with honey, buter, fruit and caramel flavours; tangy and chewy with a fruity, bitter finish; smooth and warming. A pleasure to sip.

Bottle. Pale amber with a moderate white head. Aroma was of red fruit with some caramel. Flavour started fruity before a hoppy, dry finish kicked in. A good bottled British beer.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark ruby red colour with frothy off-white head. Malty, nutty nose with caramel, dark fruit and hints of chocolate. Malty, nutty taste with chocolate, caramel, dark fruit and notes of earthy hops in a rather dry finish. Well balanced and nice, but lacking an extra dimension.
