Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Clear mahogany colour, small head. Distinct hazelnut aroma. Fairly sweet with loads of hazelnuts. Some butter and roasty malt, clean rounded mouthfeel, medium body. Low hop rate and bitterness. Nutella-beer? Intense and pretty good.

Draught at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Cloudy darkish amber, mid-sized airy head. Aroma of caramel and banana. Sweet and full bodied. Strawberry esters mingle with spun sugar, banana cake and caramel. Mild with soft, spritzy mouthfel. The high alcohol contents are barely noticed. Combines the warming qualities of doppelbock with the refreshment that hefeweizen gives well.

God, not sure why people aren’t all over this. This is a German schooling of what Hellas should be from its frothy white head, full malty mouth with bready notes with a touch of lemon and grassiness off dry bready finish. Not to mention perfectly balanced. Excellent.

Draught. Clear dark red/brown colour. Fruity flavour, but not out of style IMO. A bit watery.

Little yellowish head; chestnut-mahogany colour. Rich bready nose, some cognac notes, nuts or chestnut. Bready, sweet but very clean-tasting; nutty again (hazelnut & Brazil nuts). Well bodied, nearly thick-syrupy. Quite excellent Doppelbock. Second rating: 7/4/8/4/15 (which is pretty consistent. Aromas: also lightly sweaty and rhubarb, next to the breadiness. Oxidated flavours, old bread steeped in sherry, with a good shot of caramelized chocolate. Less viscous than first try. Seems to age well.

Bottle: Pale yellow, hazy, not cloudy; mid-sized fluffy white head; a bit lacing, slowly diminishing; fruity nose (citrus, bananas) with a tinge of cloves; soft, bitter-sweet flavour; fruity (bananas, citrus again), bitter-sweet finish. O.K., but not overwhelming.................
