Description
The Brasserie Artésienne is a craft brewery created in August 2007 in Auchy les Mines. Its beers are always of high fermentation, which mature during a long aging period while respecting the northern brewing tradition. Most of our beers are made with regional raw materials (hops from the Flanders hops cooperative, malt with the "saveur en Nord" label).
Since the summer of 2014, it has been based in Haisnes, where all stages of manufacturing are carried out (creation of recipes, brewing, fermentation, storage, bottling, refermentation). Annual production is around 1,200 hl.

Bottle at Bruce’s 30th celebrations, 08/02/13, thanks to Ian. Hazed pale yellow/blonde with a thin white head. Nose is grass, yeast, farm, spice, light funk, fruits. Taste comprises citrus, lemon, grass, yeast, orange, spices. Medium bodied but way over carbonated, not often the palate score drops below 3, dry in the finish. Ok.

Bottle from Terre de Boissons, Calais. Dirty pale blond with some small floaters and thick white head. A sticky strong blond rather than a triple I’d say. A little perfumed. Some hops on finish. Not really a huge character, alcohol becomes obvious and as I say more a strong blond than a triple. Still, it warms the cockles.

bottle 0.75l from saveur-biere.com. Clear, perhaps slightly hazy, very pale yellow colour, mid-sized white head. Lovely hop aroma, reisny-grassy. Light- to medium-bodied, elegant malty base that supports the delicious resiny-grassy hops very well. There is a touch of lemon there. Delicious hops, you can almost chew the beer. Not too bitter but very, very aromatic! Superb hop profile, can’t get enough of it. Brilliant!

bottle from saveur-biere.com. Cloudy pale yellow, huge, fluffy white head. Fruity-yeasty aroma. Very lively carbonation. Yeasty-fruity malt flavours with some dry aromatic and bitter hops that seem quite spicy, perhaps due to the lively carbonation.

This beer appears to be brewed for a posh booze shop: La Cave Gourmande, in Gravelines on the French coast (very close to Dunkirk). The 33 cl bottle with a front label showing an aerial view of the area was given to me by Marcus: cheers Marcus. Best before the end of Dec 2012: I poured it into an ’Augustijn’ goblet at home on 8th Dec 2012. Looked a very pale golden yellow with minute yeast/grist particles floating around and failing to settle. The thin wispy head of small white bubbles just sat there doing nothing: just like the yeast bits. Yeasty nose: not strong but there was nothing else to mention apart from a grainy ester or two. The taste was fine: crisp, tangy and hop bitter with a malty biscuit sweetness to balance the whole thing out. Well carbonated, held its zesty feel right to the end of the glass. No huge flavours to talk about but this was a fine brew and very easy on the palate. Different and interesting: two of my favourite words when reviewing beers, I’ll be visiting this shop when ever I get the chance: they don’t sell cheap supermarket slabs and told Marcus this when he entered: snobby French I can do without, good French beer I need!

Bottle from a Wine warehouse in Calais, France. Slightly hazy yellow pour with a small white head. Notes of yeast and spice in the nose. Sweet, fruity flavour. Quite enjoyable, but nothing to get too excited about.
