Description
Good in brewing beer. Bad in writing bios. Madness from Budapest challenging almost everything you know about beer. Always flawless, always bold, never boring. Not necessary business-wise all the time, but setting the standards high for ourselves every time as we truly believe in the cliché that goes like ‘the way you do something is the way you do anything’.

Draft from Beer Brothers, Budapest. Poured a murky light purple colour with little life. The aroma is big mango, red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate sweet and sour, with a smooth, rich, mango, tart lime, coconut palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation. I’m no fan of pastry sours but I really did like this “beer”. Don’t tell anyone:-)

Yellowish with a foamy head. Aroma of pears and funk. Herbal overtones. Sweet sour throughout. Medium bodied, mild carbonation. Refreshing. Good.

Can, a very expensive one from the Nitrox pub in old Kotor. Hazy red grapefruit colour beer, small bubbly pale pinkish head. Airy palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. A pretty simple pastry sour this, mildly tart and fruity cranberry, well balanced, there is that B word with this brewery again, with vanilla. A nice sweet and sour tension and properly cranberry. Can't think of that many cranberry beers. Drinks very easy for the abv.

Can, a very expensive one from the Nitrox pub in old Kotor. A light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Light palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Light smooth pale malts, quite sweet. Hops sounded like an intriguing combo. However, the delivery, for me, is off kilter. Incredibly floral and quite perfumey. There are touches of stone fruits and tropical fruits but, these are very much secondary aspects to the weird floral perfume thing that is front and centre. Off! Ha! Having extolled the virtues of Mad Scientist this last week, I come across what imho is a first rate clunker. But, one bad beer does not a brewery define. These guys have proven their acumen to me.

Bottle, a very expensive one from the Nitrox pub in old Kotor. Opaque dark brown with a decent dark tan head. Smooth and slightly viscous palate with good superfine carbonation. Fluffy but rich dark malts, a good balance of dark and milk chocolate, mebbe around 70:30. Spot of earthy coffee. Lovely barrelling, some oak induced vanilla. The plum brandy and port barrels are in good balance (and balance seems to be a key feature of this brewery). Soft rich plum, some soft rich date and prune. Just a touch of red berries. Can't see any specifics on the labelling but, I am guessing this is a tawny port barrel. A light touch of savoury wood. It all comes together into a splendid coherence of a finish. These mad Hungarians know how to brew and they really really know how to balance.

Can, a very expensive one from the Nitrox pub in old Kotor. Oily looking opaque dark brown beer, with a small dark tan head. Smooth palate, a little viscous, decent fine carbonation. Rich dark malts, not a huge amount of sweetness. Good espressoish earthy coffee. A little dark malt cream and dark chocolate. Smooth finish brings a mild alcohol spice. Rich and certainly not over sweet.

Tap at Mels. Murky amber golden. Edge, fruity. Fruit juice. Nice but not nice enough to spend more time rating - food just arrived.

Tap at Mels. Cloudy amber, low creamy head. Fermented fruit nectar, light coconut and tropical fruit feel to it. Strong and thick, but with a nice fizz to it.
