Take 2 Bottle from Tomlinsons, Inverness [300113]
I return to this beer after another 1000 or so rates. I was worried I might not like it as much. No way - it’s still #1, but the Pannepot Grand Reserva is a close second....must open the Westy 12 soon.....Just phenomenol 9/4/10/5/19 4.7
Appearance is dark brown-amber with golden amber edges on glass. Pours with off white head that dissipates to a thin layer. Aroma is exceptional and complex - raisins soaked in alcohol with gentle fruit cake spices, sherry notes, hint of roast malt, dark spice sugar. The flavour enhances the aroma, so complex and interesting, everything is blended so well with just the right amount of alcohol. Each sip brings something new - I feel as though I am drinking something antique - reminds one of the whiff of resin off old furniture (it’s not in the beer - it gives a memory of it !). The carbonation is just right, the mouthfeel rich. The finish is complex, warm and smooth with spicy hops and fruity raisin - pure nectar. This beer is incredible, so beautifully crafted and so hard to describe in words, but so wonderful. 10/4/10/5/19 4.8 [240611]

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is dark fruit, figs, apples, caramel, fresh bread, and ripe bananas. The flavor is intense sweetness up front through the middle, and a faintly bitter and musty end. The palate is very heavy, thick and syrupy. The carbonation is lively and adds a crispness to the mouthfeel. The finish is long and warming, with a pleasant and faint aftertaste. Overall, this is an astoundingly good beer. Complex and powerful, but well balanced and never abrasive or abrupt. The flavors mix wonderfully, and finish well. Easy mouthfeel, and great finish.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is dark Belgian sugar with some dark fruit and alcohol. Flavor is dark fruit to start some anise then comes a bit of earthy malt. Finish has some spice and brown sugar with again some alcohol. This is one of those beers that each sip brings something different. Expensive for a 11oz bottle but a nice b-day gift to myself.

Bottle from Sourced at St Pancras. It pours mahogany brown, with a thick foamy beige head and low-moderate carbonation. The nose is wood, dried fig, currant, date, caramel, dried cranberry, ginger and pepper. The taste is caramel, chocolate, wood, currant, raisin, plum, sea salt, brown sugar, fig, cinnamon and nutmeg, with light alcohol warmth in the finish. It is well balanced and complex, yet still light and drinkable.

Bottle in De Paas. Pours dark, slightly hazy brown with small but lasting white head. Aroma has dark fruits, slight chocolate, raisins. Flavor has same as aroma with figs, leather, malt and a slight alcohol aftertaste. Carbonation is soft to medium. Great example of the style.

Drank from a bottle in Taipei. Taste isn’t as strong as some of the other trappists, but still way beyond adequate in the grand scheme of things.

Just as pretty as you’d expect, hazy dark brown with an exuberant, everlasting top. Smells sweet, but with a noticeable cherry fruitiness mixed in, a little booze as well. Initially kinda tastes like sweet tea, full of caramel and a bitter edge, until a peppery, smoke-laced wave rushes in and evens things out. The dry middle lasts for a beat or two before being replaced by a black cherry and bourbon fade, a wondrously slow, warm finish to a delicious beer. (3/25/09)

bottle@’t Waagstuk: looks red with a touch of amber, white/tanned lasting head, very fruity with almost partially fermenting fruit, sweetness from caramel and burned brown sugar with a last of roasted malt, something earthly, spice, very good & better tan the 8 /////////////// Had again, def. not better than the 8. Quite a bit better than 4.2. Not changing score for now since no proper notes.

0,33 l. bottle from the supermarket. Bought to celebrate my rating # 100!Want this one to be something special. Pours a dark brown colour with a small off-white/tan head that holds a small head, but does not leave much lacing. Aroma is a lot of dark fruits, raisins, plums, figs, currants, grapes, good caramel along with toasted bread, yeast, some chocolate, and brown sugar. Taste is a full-bodied combination of dark fruits, plums, figs, raisins, black currants, as well as chocolate, toffee, brown sugar, and caramel. No alcohol in the taste, but a warming feeling in the finish. A bit of sweetness, not much bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy and a medium carbonation. Long lasting finish with a returning recall of the taste. I rate this as high as the 8, but the 8 has the same qualities, but with less alcohol. A very rich, complex and delicious beer with a legacy.
