Clear red brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, fruity, yeasty and light spicy. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. High carbonation that suits the beer. Very nice. 010411

0,33 l. bottle from the supermarket, poured into a trappist glass. Reddish-brown colour with a two-finger off-white head. Very fruity aroma--plum, figs, raisins, and dates -- alongside a yeasty spiciness and a hint of toasted malts. The malt aroma sweetens as the beer warms up, becoming toffee-like, and the yeast aroma turns leathery. Alcohol plays a very small role. The flavor is first reminiscent of toasted dates, then turns phenolic and yeasty. It ends in a wide selection of tastes, including all the fruit of the aroma, a dry yeastiness and some toast. Alcohol is not present at anytime. Very good, but not as full-bodied as other trappist beers. Looking forward to rate the 8 and the 10.

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy orangish-brown with lots of flakes floating around. The aroma is malted wheat, nuts, lemon rinds, coriander, cloves, and figs. The flavor is sweet and dry, with a crisp tartness. The palate is medium to heavy, sticky and lightly carbonated. Overall, a quality dubbel.

bottle@home: sweet, brown sugar, raisins, prunes & figs, spice, caramel, earthly malts, tastes like the 10’s little brother //////// Re-rate: 33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from the supermarket. BBF 25/07/2018. Pours dark hazy amber, touch copper, creamy off-white head. Smells very fruity, bubblegum, figs, prunes, candy sugar, soft sweet light brown bread, soft BE yeast, raisins, berries, incredible,… Taste is an explosion of bubblegum fruit, white & brown bread, figs, raisins, prunes, BE yeast, sweet spices, tiny hint of liquorish, soft, juicy, hint cocoa. Total bubblegum body. Drinks like water. Man this is incredible, I remember this being good but this is ridiculous. Different from the 10, a different experience, more of a drinking as opposed to sipping beer. Upped to 4.8 for now.

bottle@bar: looks very dark brown, almost black, there is very little head to speak of but it has some nice lacing, it smells or raisins, coffee, chocolate & alcohol, strong & nice smell, the taste is very rich & complex, has dark fruits, coffee, sugar, black bread in it & finishes of with noticeable but complimenting & nice hint of alcohol, bit on the thicker side with some nice carbonation, always enjoy this one, great beer, deserves its reputation & really opens up when it gets a bit warmer, you can safely drink this one even at room temperature, it is even best at near room temperature /// /// been having this again from time to time @ room temperature, it is just such an incredible mess of rich dark fruits, bread, raisins, figs, dates, bread, Belgian yeast, sugar and quite some alcohol and available at your local supermarket at a damn fine price this is incredible, rating this higher. - on par with the better RIS as far as the enjoyment goes but easier to have

Pours deep brown with a nice beize head. Head remains full and slightly laces nicely. Dark fruit and high alcohol on the nose. Well-rounded mouthfeel with spritzy carbonated covering. Very complex flavor of malt, dark fruit and alcohol.

Bottle from RealAle.com. It pours deep murky brown with lively carbonation and a thin tan head. The nose is dark chocolate, caramel, liquorice, yeast and obvious alcohol. The taste is dark chocolate, caramel, wood, tobacco, leather, earth, liquorice, rum and raisin ice-cream, currant and prune, with a long, boozy, slightly sweet finish. It reminds me a lot of boozy fruit-cake. The complexity, balance and depth of flavour are the reason why this beer is an absolute classic.

Dried fruit and chocolate on the nose. Fully flavoured and more of the ’fruit and nut bar’ on the palate. It finishes quite bitter with perhaps a hint of liquorice. Is the bitterness created by the yeast used or did they use coriander?

Pours a slightly cloudy dark brown with faint ruby highlights and a smallish off white head that dissipates to a cap. Smells of dark fruit, burnt sugar, a bit of alcohol. Taste is fruity with a smokey funky taste. Some phenolic and bubblegum in there as well. The carbonation is a bit high. Body is thick, mouthfeel is bubbly/creamy. I loved the smell and taste of this one, but I thought the high carbonation did unfavorable things to the mouthfeel.
