Description
Grimm Artisanal Ales is a Brooklyn-based brewery founded in 2013 by Joe and Lauren Grimm after nearly a decade of tinkering with fermentation. Grimm specializes in concise, elegant ales epitomizing the creative, experimental spirit of the American artisanal beer revolution. With each limited edition release, we seek to push the boundaries of style and flavor in order to create beers with the utmost depth and complexity. For five years, Grimm operated as a nomadic brewery. Joe and Lauren would develop each recipe in the kitchen of their Gowanus apartment and travel to existing breweries near and far to craft their commercial beers.

Pours deep mahogany into a tulip. Off-white head with medium retention recedes leaving scant lacing. Blackberry aromas. Dry with sweet summer berry upfront turning to mildly sour blackberry before the medium length marshmallow finish.

Bottle at home on Easter Sunday. Loving this brew. Pours hazy orange with frothy bg head. Bottle gushed a bit but I mistreated it in transport. Nose s lovely honey and white wine. The barrel aging is spot on and the brandy plays with honey just perfect. Tastes of brandy, honey, Chardonnay, vanilla, some pineapple. It seems sweet but isn’t overpoweringly so. It’s quite a treat.

Tasting at Matt’s
Murky blond color, small head, not inviting. Fruity aroma, sour. Overly carbonated; extreme astringent flavor, dirty, yeasty, with excessive bitterness, covering any fruity character.
Dirty and almost undrinkable.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. Murky pale yellow with a white head. Aroma of apples, earth, flowers, spice, citrus and a funky note. Sourish flavor, mildly funky and lactic, with citrus, yeast, apples and mild floral spiciness. Rather light-bodied, lively carbonation. Very good and refreshing.
