Description
The Brewery was founded in 1367. The brewery has been family-owned since 1879. The owners still maintain the old brewing tradition and the warm hospitality of the Carmelite monastery. The lively mix of yesterday and today, old and new, is increasingly being demanded and valued beyond the borders of our homeland. Carefully selected raw materials, old recipes and the best possible maturation times are the basis for the excellent taste and digestibility of our beer specialties. A high level of craftsmanship and the use of the latest technology guarantee the consistently high quality.

Bottle, Karmeliten Biobier. Honeyish spice to the malt and light flowery hop aroma. Golden, fine carbonation, lacing head. Dusty/minerally edges, behind a full malt body and good broad grassy, earthy and citric hop notes. Full chewy body, sparkly mouthfeel. Well balanced and moreish despite the somewhat hard salts.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, pale golden colour with a blond and dense foamy head of medium size. Sweet malty and delicately herbal and sweaty hoppy aroma. Bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with an almost crisp carbonation. Slightly cardboardy malty taste with a good dash of herbal and subtle fruity hops, unfortunately getting slightly metallic towards the bitter-sweet and slightly papery finish. Not completely bad but also not very good. 03.XI.11

Hazy chestnut colour, large off-white head. Medium-bodied, malty with lots of caramel and roast flavours. Herbal hopy present, giving it a shy medicinal character. Hints of licorice. Rather hoppy in the finish.

Bottle: Golden, huge and stable rocky head, cloudy, lively carbonation; yeasty nose, wheat, cloves and bananas underneath; moderate sourish-sweetish flavour, light bodied, quite soft; lingering, mild sourish-tart finish. Not so great......

Draught Beautiful reddish-cola coloured beer with a medium, stable light-tan head. Sweet bread, breadcrust, toffee and maplesyrup. Taste is drier than the nose, with chestnut, and a leafy finish. Again maplesyrup, but diluted and not overly sweet. Very slick, seems much better bodied than it really is. Another good, if unspectacular Dunkles - then again, the style is unspectacular.
