Associated Venue: Barreled Souls Brewing Company
Established in 2014
Matt and Chris set out to create the kind of beers they would want to drink and the kind of brewery they would want to spend time at. This meant focusing on making a large variety of beers, using unique ingredients and processes paired with a large, comfortable and professionally run tasting room that carries 12 varieties on draft.
The brewery operates a fifty gallon brewing system. All of the beer produced at the brewery undergoes primary fermentation in oak barrels. The fermentation system is based off of the Burton Union system, which was a method of fermenting beer developed in England in the 1800’s. The benefits of this system are really three-fold.

500mL bottled 9/2/24, #938/1020, drunk 11/2/25. As pictured.
It's a whole lot of cinnamon. I guess there's some Willett in there but it's tough to get at. Salty bacon is interesting and fudgey malts soften the deal. Still a fair amount of cinnamon, but not brutally so. Sweet and syrupy. But again, not horrendously so on either. Needs another six months at the very least.

Bottle shared with membership group. Cola brown with nice viscosity. Aroma is strong roasted malts, cinnamon and coffee. Taste is strong cinnamon, mild coffee, slight bacon char in the finish. Smooth, soft carbonation and finish as taste. OK but not getting bacon or bourbon, so disappointing in that regard.

500 ml bottle from our membership. Bottle # 938/1020. Aroma of soft cinnamon, subtle smoky earthy hints. The coffee in the flavor is low and dominated by smoke and cinnamon. Bold body with an oily texture. Good and smoky.

Bottle shared with membership group! Cola brown, ring of head, nice viscosity, trace lacing. Aroma is smoked earthy malt along with smokey Scotch covering up some peaty malt, mild chocolate. Taste is strong smoked, peaty malt, smokey Scotch. Smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Not over-the-top smoke but that's the angle here.

500mL bottled 3/19/24, drunk 11/1/25, #573/1200. As pictured.
Smoke! Big peat, lots of iodine. Some prune and raisin behind it. Not sure this works that well together? Fruity, roasty and iodine.
Yeah...this just doesn't do it for me. It's dry, it's fruity, it's roasty and there's dry smoke with big peat. I just don't know that it works. For me at least. And I LOVE Islay Scotch....

Bottled 7/10/23, drunk 11/1/25, as pictured. Bottled 1726/1800.
Sweet and sticky toffee with vanilla and sweet bourbon. Fruity cherry and dry liquor.
Cherry, toffee, big black pepper. Sweet toffee lingering with floral rum that adds a big spicy strength. Sticky and filling with a medium-full, not syrupy texture. That floral drying with pepper is intense on the finish. Somehow paled slightly only by the sheer majesty of DB Cosmic Cliffs.

Bottle with membership group!!!! Inky black with nice viscosity. Aroma is strong, mellow bourbon, hint of chocolate. Taste is strong bourbon, cherry/dark fruit, slightly peaty malt, mild toffee. Smooth, silky texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste. How the hell is this 16.6%? Bourbons are lovely and completely smooth. Other elements from the base stout. Lovely sipper.
