Can at BTBF. Pours with a hazy golden hued body with a small white head. Aromas are malty, toasty, grainy, low ester, light hop floral character. Flavors are grainy, bready and toasty. Light hop presence, low bitterness, pretty clean. Crisp. Lively carbonation and dry. Easy drinking and unoffensive.

On tap at BTBF. Pours with a near black hued body with a small tan head. Aromas are of chocolate, floral, vanilla and peppery alcohol. Bready, dark fruits and plums. Quite smooth. Flavors are of licorice, bready, floral and spicy hop, chocolate and brown sugar. Dry for what it is. Creamy mouthfeel, well hidden alcohol, medium bodied.

On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a clear amber with medium beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roasted malt raisin and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with sweet roasted malt, chocolate and sweet finish. Very impressive.

Chilled bottle from Josh poured into a sampler glass, blind side-by-side with heady topper and Solitary and Solitude 6. Deep golden/light amber with very little head, and low carbonation. Taste is nicer herbal hops and some grass. My least favorite of the three, but still pretty good.

Approximately 10 oz tulip draft pour at Craft and Growler in Dallas, Texas. The pour is a hazed orange ruby with a smallish off white head. The aroma is bright citrus peel, resin, dank, and a softly sweet floral. The taste is the citrus, spiced resin hops balanced with caramel toasted malt. No alcohol present to speak of. The palate is medium bodied, soft fine carbonation, and a mineral finish. Nice stuff, I like the balance and nuance of the Deep Ellum regular IPA better, but this is a really solid hoppy beer as well.

Half pint draft pour at the Ginger Man near downtown Dallas, Texas. The pour is brown black with ruby highlights and a smallish tan head. The aroma is lightly roasted, slight char malt, along with a dark chocolate, mildly cherry fruit sweetness. Pretty subdued nose. The taste is the roast char malt initially, turning quick to the sweetness of the cocoa, and the sweet tartness of the cherry. The char roast comes back into play in the lingering finish. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and the sweet roast finish. I have never been too wild about these sweet cherry stouts, but this one is at least well made.

12 oz bottle purchased at the Specs on the North side of Dallas, Texas. The pour is a slightly hazed golden orange with a smallish white head. Pretty beer. The aroma is soft floral spiced rye, paired with a crisp toasted grain malt. Delicate and nuanced nose. The taste is the rye up front, spiced and floral, then moves to the toasted grain of the malt. Clean and crisp, rye is more present in the flavor than the nose. The palate is light to medium bodied, a nice unfiltered mouth feel, active cleansing carbonation, and the rye spice finish. Nice one, really impressed with both Deep Ellum beers I have had.

Shaker pint draft at the Flying Saucer in Addison, Texas. The pour is a slight hazed copper orange brown, with a small off white head. The aroma is orange citrus, dank, and a nice foundation of toasted malt. The taste is super fresh vibrant resin dank citrus hops, some dry floral, and all of the hop flavors are balanced with a great toasted malt, which also shows some caramel notes as it warms. The palate is medium bodied, soft natural carbonation, and a dry lightly mineral finish. Really nice, this is very much how I like my IPAs.

Sample at Petrol Station in Houston. The beer pours a cloudy dark copper color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Hops, citrus and malt in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, tropical fruit and bready malt. The finish is fruity with a lingering hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Sample at Hay Merchant in Houston. Reddish-brown color with a medium light beige head that dissipates steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Smells of caramel, oak and malt. Medium to full body with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel and flavors of caramel malt, floral hops and a touch of honey. The finish is sweet with a lingering caramel aftertaste. Above average overall.
