Description
Leroy Het Sas : The original brewery "Het Sas", later Brouwerij Leroy, established in Boezinge in 1572; destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Named after a lock ('sas' in Dutch) in the nearby canal. Cooperating with Van Eecke (Leroy Breweries Watou) since 1962. Both breweries merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016.

Leroy Watou : Established as a castle brewery for the count of Watou in 1624 and also known formerly as Brouwerij De Gouden Leeuw. Has long been connected to Leroy in Boezinge through family ties, with both breweries cooperating since 1962. They merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016; the Watou branch now does all the actual brewing (while Boezinge handles conditioning and bottling).

From the website:

Huge thanks to Erzengel for that one! Bottle looks very simple. Beer in the glass with a huge head. Starts mild, malty, sweetish. Some grasy-spicy notes as well. Shy lemon touch. Finish more balanced. Quite drinkable. Okay.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours a cloudy gold, loose bubbles not even trying to form a head. One of my favourite beers hommelbier, but this AF version renders it unrecognisable.. quite grainy.. lacks fresh hoppy citrus, indistinct sweetness.. fine for a bland AF supermarket beer, but I was expecting more with this.. disappointing.

330ml bottle. Opalescent, yellow-ish, dark golden colour with averae, frothy, osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Floral-grassy, hoppy, yeasty spicy and spicy, pale malty aroma, hints of chamomile, mustard seed, brine. Taste is spicy, pale malty, yeasty spicy and mildly bitter, floral-grassy hoppy, hints of chamomile, some mustard seed, a tart-ish touch of brine, some black pepper.
Oily-watery texture, smooth, minimally dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation.
Nicely hopped, quite some Farmhouse Ale character - nice.
