(Bottle 25 cl) Amber coloured with a small off-white head. Has some fruity notes from the ale-yeast, some malt and some indefinable spices. Late bitterness. Quenching but thin-bodied and hasn’t really much going on. Not unpleasant just rather anonymous. 050398

(Bottle 25 cl) Another very odd beer: first soft and watery, then sweet and sour only to finish almost smoked. A journey through all these impressions in only 25 cl - magnficent! Very refined, delicious nose. Hazy, orangey golden, small beige head. 070298

(Bottle 25 cl) Golden and hazy - almost Witbier-appearance - white, collapsing head. Yeasty acidity - I’m sure there’s some wheat in here. But no real frutiness before the bitter finish. Unusual. 201197

(Bottle 25 cl) Amber coloured with a decent, off-white head - some haze. Sweetish malt, a touch of caramel with a fine, moderate hoppy finish. Nice. But have to agree with lachesis - this is no sour ale. Peter Crombecq defined it as an "extra" - a not too strong ale that doesn’t fit into most other categorie. We should just label it "Belgian Ale" I believe. 081197

The beer carries the catkin of the bog myrtle. It is quite unclear whether this was effectively used. Good fluffy, dirty white head, fast receding; murky peach to amber beer. Bit of caramel, white candi sugar, a touch of coriander and... dammit. Somethin used in haute cuisine , like a herb for flavouring salmon smoked à la minute. More coriander warming up, and cocos. Dry taste, coriander to the fore, lending it a fake citrus touch. Oh my, Marc had gone coriandering too. Belgium’s brewers imitating their imitators. It’s not too overpowering, rather chafing instead of irritating. Aromatic-soapy flavours. End bitterness, and getting a touch of cocos. Medium bodied. Not much going on. Remarkable how many want to make a tripel, remarkable how few achieve the looked-upon Westmalle Tripel quality...

(Bottle 25 cl) Years ago I had a "Snoek" in the version by "De Dolle Brouwers", but now Strubbe has taken over producing both a "Blond" and a "Bruin" to the small, cosy brewery-museum (AND bar, not to forget!) in Alveringem, West-Flanders. "The Museum of Thirst...!" And surprisingly the "Bruin" is a sour ale, definately not the hippest type these years. Almost mahogany in colour, filtered with a small off-white head.
