Originally rated January 2006. Bought at the Dépanneur de la Rive in Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Pours a deep caramel-amber colour with a decent creamy off-white head. Good lacing too. The aroma is quite mild, specially for a strong beer like that. Some alcohol and apples, but very light. The apples are also present in the taste. No alcohol burns though, very well-hidden. Very smooth and pleasant. The best Multi-Brasses brew I have had so far.

Bouteille 341ml.

bottle - This brew smells of roast malt and green apples. It’s very dark brown with a light tan head. The flavor is sweet with loads of apples that also lend some tartness. It has a roasty finish and a medium body. This brew is certainly different, but I don’t get the hate. I think it’s pretty good.

Originally rated February 2006. Bought at the Dépanneur de la Rive in Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Pours a lightly cloudy blonde colour with a fizzy white head. Retention is poor, and so is lacing. Small tiny spec of different shape that are darker are floating all over. Not too many though. The nose is sour at first with the thought of going bad, going through my head. Then, the satisfying sweetness kicks in. Mmmm..... maple syrup. Mouthfeel is kind of watery and mildly fizzy. Thankfully, the taste is better. The infection still persist at the beginning with some sourness, but then, again, the maple comes to the rescue... in the aftertaste. Some green apples in there in the middle. Tastes like the hard candy made from maple syrup and a bit of "sucre-à-la-crème". Nice and light, but still prefer the Schoune à l’Èrable.

Originally rated March 2006. Bought in September 2005 on my trip to Quebec City, with S8n. Pours a yellow-amber with a bit of pink colour with many sediments of different tiny size floating around. Creamy-foam white head that is a good size, has decent retention and leaves thick patches of lacing. The nose is bitter with canberries and good notes of maple syrup, after breathing some time. Watery mouthfeel with some light tart and lightly carbonated. Mmm... great taste ! Starts off with the fruit, sour, mildly bitter and dry cranberry. Then finishes with a smooth maple aftertaste. Excellent blend of two great sources, and a nice success for Multi-Brasses, for a refreshing spring brew.

Originally rated March 2006. Bought at the Dépanneur de la Rive in Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Caution: Watch out for the crazy head ! It is insanely huge. Easy to overflow, but luckily, this one is safe in my English pint glass. Very good, very long lasting brown creamy head. The nose is of roasted malts with mild chocolat malts in the back. Medium-bodied and dry mouthfeel. Sourness is found in the taste, with some light roasted malt and hints of smoke in the aftertaste. Does not really feel like a sweet stout, but more like a dry stout. Still, quite drinkable, but nothing exceptional.

Originally rated July 2006. Nice idea, to add apples and cranberries to a no-alcohol brew. Pours a golden-amber peach-juice-looking colour with a small bubbly head. Some slight lace is left behind after a quick getaway head. Lightly carbonated and has quite the apple juice aroma. Watery mouthfeel with the mild fruits for taste. Does not taste much the malt, but a very interesting blend for a nice different reduced alcohol brew.

Originally rated September 2006. Bought at the Dépanneur À-Tout-Prix in Laval, Quebec. Pours a super dark brown with red highlights. Its tanned head has pretty good retention, but lacing falls a bit short. Fruity, caramel sweet nose with some alcohol. Mild burnt wood is in the back. Creamy mouthfeel with a slight burn at the end, but nothing offensive. The taste is the same as the nose, fruits (apples, mild cherries), roasted malt and caramel. A very good beer for Multi-brasses, but just lacking the top of what a Belgian brewery would brew.

Originally rated January 2007. This apple stout pours a dark colour, but with more red highlights than most stouts. Good mildly-tanned head with decent retention and beautiful creamy lacing. Light molasse nose with a small amount of sourness in the background. Hard to smell any apples at this level. Nice thick mouthfeel which is kind of oily. The taste is different, but not offensive. Start on a sour note, but hits the sweetness in the middle, where the apples are lightly tasted. Then, burnt and roasted malts show up in the aftertaste. I guess, not quite a stout (and by no means do they advertise it to be a stout). More, like a porter with light fruits juices thrown in.

Originally rated February 2007. Weird... comes in a bomber, but with a twist-off neck. Pours a dark brown colour with mohagony highlights. Tanned head with nice lacing and a ring that stays (unlike the head). Very slow carbonation. Malty nose with a sweetness of red apples. Thin mouthfeel with very little stickiness. At first, a real bad taste with some rustiness and mild infection. Then, the mouth got used to it, and got better. The red apples are there too, with the malt. Interesting aftertaste, where roasted malt appears and then, some very light chocolat. Alcohol is very well-hidden and drinkability is decent. Will stick with Unibroue for Quebec 9% ABV beers.
