Unsure of the date on this one. I know the last shipment of these hit the U.S. in early-mid 2004, so I will assume this is a 2003 bottle. Light golden pour, lightly hazy/transluscent, bottle conditioned, with a smattering of white head. The color has a greenish tint to it, with some light, rusty orange-yellow tones as well. Aroma is lightly sour/bitter, spruce and gale notes, with a hint of dry, nutty coriander-like notes as well. Flavor has a unique range of spices, some sweet, some bitter, some dry and nutty. A tinge of sugar on the palate and a chewiness no doubt from the oats used. Odd, buttery/cardboard overtones on the palate, that really make this tough to love (diacetyl). Medium-light body, a bit stale tasting on the end. Though it’s bottle conditioned, it tastes like the yeast has petered out. Finishes with more herbs, light citrus (lemons, tangerines) and with an even wheat and oat texture, that seems slightly broken up by a bit too much carbonation. Need to try this one fresh.

Dark black color, short off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, some rye, coffee, licorice. Sweet and malty taste, bit soft for a stout. Dry and bit creamy palate. Nice try to brew a stout.

Explosive gushing to very pale yellow beer with faint haze, and towering masses of snow-white head. Perfumed-spicey nose with coriander, patchouli, citrus, citruspeel, laosroot, nutmeg - and white chocolate, though that is probably suggestion. Weird perfumed-tart taste, very dry, a tad lactic, again (dry) citrus and unidentifyable spices. Some hints of sweetness, no bitterness. Very carbonised and dry at the same time. Beer has virtually no aftertaste, flavours simply vanish. Remarkable. Compared to the Floris Chocolate from their Huyghe buddies, this is heaven.

Very carbonated, bubbles as in aged beer, foxy-amber beer with red highlights, slightly hazy only (!); disparate beige head. Wheat, sourmash, chocolate, laurel, and the brimstone smell you get when trying an empty lighter. A bit metallic taste, ever so slightly sourish, quite wheaty again, maybe again a bit lactic. Dark malts in evidence. Quite well bodied, nearly chewy, sourness keeps it refreshing nevertheless. Quite original tasting bokbier. If it’s infected, it’s in a very nice way. Like it.

Fully hazy, dark brown beer with red shine; slim dirty-brown head. Lactic nose, yoghurt, sweet chocolate, cardemom, vanilla, toffee. Short bitterish taste, woody, here some herbs come forward, difficult to say which; definitely something phenolic. Lactic is still here, and raisins in the flavour. full-bodied, milk-slick, carbonation seems boosted by the yoghurt-like taste. Very nice beer. Where is this brewed? If Chris Wisse is doing it, he’s seriously bettered his stuff.

Gushing to a little, fully hazy, orange beer with a greenish shine, and a mass of orangey foam. Nose: coriander, coriander and again coriander. Flowery, too, blossomy, maybe a tad honey. There’s no escaping the coriander. Wheat presents itself, too, and a very orangey/citrus flavour. There’s some spicey bitterness surrounding it all, maybe some lunaria-flavour. Oats work well for a fuller body, in my experience, and this here is another confirmation. Some slickness. Not bad, certain refreshing qualities. I’m, however, all in favour of a European total ban on the use of coriander in drinks. Add that in the lambstew or gosht curry itself!

This beer was brewn for the Stripdagen in Haarlem in 2003, and the label shows a picture of ’Dirk-Jan’, a popular cartoon in Holland. Clear golden color, medium head. Aroma is very fruity and spicy, only a bit caramel malty. Nice balanced taste of fruits like peach and orange with a more bitter and malty palate. Very nice beer.

Cloudy brown, fading head, mild carbonation. Aroma and flavor dominated by an apply phenolic ester profile, highly reminiscent of Chimay Red, but sweeter. Raisiny Special B notes also apparent. Herbal or spice components difficult to discern, I could not detect them. Instead just a sweet estery malt is present with a mild alcohol presence in the finish. The Belgiany esters are nice but on the whole the beer borderline one-dimensional and not very drinkable.

The cork blasted off upon opening. I thought i had it covered, but it found its way to the ceiling with some speed!Hazy light yellow color, big white head. Aroma is very sour of pineapple and lemon. Jopen says to have used white chocolate, and maybe there is a hint of white chocolate in aroma and taste, but the sweet sour lemon juice and pineapple taste dominates. Quite watery and sweet beer. Not a success though.
