Good, stable dense cream-coloured head over hazy red-brown beer. Vanilla, lightly spicy, some dark malts and molasses. Flavour is more hoppy than the nose, with tobacco, again quite spicy, and I seem to detect coriander, despite its lacking on the ingredients’ list. Medium bodied, quite slick. The spicyness increasing with temperature, it’s not really my thing.

Towering, dense & fine dark beige head over mahogany beer. End of bottle fully yeast-opaque. Faint chocolate, caramel and toffee; dark green leaves. Very dry flavour, wood & cacao powder; faintly spicy, dry leaves flavours. Much drier than comparable Germans Bocks. Bitterness in the finish. Quite carbonated feel, despite being quite slick and rather well-bodied. Good, if unspectacular Dunkler Bock.Earlier Rating: 9/26/2007 Total Score: 3.5 Draught Dark hazy chestnut with red highlights; creamy yellow-amber head. Sweet nose with chocolate notes, as well as faint leafy & earthy accents. Soft roasted bitterness overlying sweeter malts. Again some chocolate flavour, and almonds in the background, even bitter(ish)almonds. Ends sweeter. Milky to creamy texture, well-bodied. Walnut peel in the aftertaste. Ah, not-too-sweet-Bock, with just enough restsweetness to make it convinceable. In case you find it on tap, try by all means.

Little or no head over hazy foxy-brown beer. Sweetish, peperkoek/gingerbread, with a slight sourish edge. Bitterish, with cakey, slight syrupy background. Somehow a strange mint-, or other green/fluffy herb flavour. Long bitterish-sweet aftertaste. Medium to well-bodied, slick, alcohol pretty hidden. Might do with slightly more punch - but not without merit.

Yellowish-beige, medium and dense head; jet-black beer. Outspoken coffee nose, with light sweetish note, coffee beans, ureum. Cold coffee with carbonation. Long bitterish flavour, with coffee and black chocolate; hints at hops, felt and dark green leaves. Very thick, viscous MF, alleviated by a lively carbonation. Aftertaste has a warming, sweet alcoholic streak. Good stout. For the lovers of coffee, hard to better, no doubt.

On tap at ’t Arendsnest. Clear dark golden copper colour, white head. Aroma of grassy hops and bready malts. Flavour is light sweet, malty, grassy, hoppy, light fruity. Medium bodied. Very German overall. Still not my style, but this is a decent brew.
