Clear medium gold. Hoppy-bready aroma with some mineral notes. Slightly crisp, with warm maltiness. Hops are grassy, slightly fruity. Cat piss came on a little too strong though.

Dark chestnut colour; head limited to faint greyish rim. Some Sauerbrot, a bit of cabbage, underlying aromatic malt in the nose. Bitter-roasted malts, and some bitterness as from a herb - dandelion, etc. - softened by some sweet malts base. Some other herb, maybe mint. No sourness in the taste, however. Bitter chocolate retronasal. Medium bodied, some burning sensation. I like the nose, much. The rest is a bit - ’fade’, however. Pity - promessed much.

Slim ring of dark brown head; beer fully black. Dark chocolate and tobacco ash dominate roasted malts in the nose. Very bitter beer, both hops and lots of dark, burnt malt. Bitter full-chocolate. Touch of pine needles flavour retronasal and again tobacco. Fiery burning sensation, full bodied. Long bitter chocolate aftertaste. A god stout - but I find it a bit light for an Imperial Stout, and also rather onedirectional - although I esteem the balance malt-hops OK.

(Brewed at Le Chaudron) Black beer; dark brown, mixed-bubbles head, good carbonation. Moccha, ink, walnuts and hazelnuts (or hazelnut chocolate), freshly sawn hardboard in the nose. Bitter-sweet chocolate, nutty and tobacco flavours but not really smoked as a Rauchbier. Faint sourish finish, nice touch for the balance. Typical for a porter/stout, the "chewy" factor is much higher than the probable apparent gravity. Slight but notable dry-out effect. A very nice, balanced porter. Unless it’s for the smoked factor, I cannot dig why René H. is so weary of ’old’ ratings. I confess as to have tasted a ’gold cap’. It is a porter - not a smoked beer, and I like it. Again thanks to MartinT and Rastacouere.

Intense pale green-gold; irregular snow-white head. Nose with grain, sweet malts, flowery, but just a whiff of hops in the background. An aroma of starfruit or cactus fig. One intensely short moment of a sweet fruit (difficult to say which); then follows a revolving of intense hoptaste, suitably bitter and sweet golden malt. Bitter mouthimpression keeps going on for long. Rather well-bodied. Bitterish taste is on the verge of harsh. An excellent balance. It didn’t really remind me of the great Czech Pilseners, but it is an interesting bottom fermenting beer all the same. thanks Martin!

My this is impressive! Deep black beer with a thick deep brown moka head, with a nice coffee aroma. Big roasted chocolate taste with nice hops in finish and a body that is WELL balanced and not overpowering. Excellent beer by René...Bravo mon grand! 7-5-8-4-16
2005B: Extra extra black with a huge brown head. Nice bitter chocolate aroma with smokey notes, and fine herbal quality. Rich cold coffee with bitter chocolates, lingering hops, and a smooth rich body, pleasing and warming. Mike’s tasting. 8-5-9-4-16

Blonde with a nice thick frothy head. Grassy smell with nice hops. Good bodied beer with a good balance and hops, very czech in style, dry and not too sweet. Very good interpretation.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-dark beer with an nice head with medium retention. Aroma is overpowered by roastiness and coffee, which I don’t mind. The taste is quite similar to the aroma, so again roastiness and coffee with a huge creamy body. Alcohol is very subtle with a finish that’s a bit too dry for my liking. Overall, this is another great beer from Bièropholie.

Allows very little light to escape its opaqeness that is topped with a light brown head. The nose is of a freshly extinguished fire pit, complemented with notes of coffee and dark chocolate, while the medium – full body is of smoked meat, chocolate, peaty, and smoky dark chocolate ending. Wonderful, if you love smoked malt beverages. Damn I shoulda posted this rating earlier as I sampled this in mid April 2003 and could have been one of the first to rate doh!!

Bottle: Poured a light blondish brew with a huge head with standard retention. Carbonation is average with a nice standard body for this type of beer. Aroma is quite floral with a hint of dryness. Taste is a bit dry with some nice notes of malts. Overall, this is a very enjoyable example of the pilsner style comparable to Pilsner Urquell but I’m just not a huge fan of this type of beer.
