[Vintage 2005 - sampled March 2006] A deep red beer with a nice brown head. The aroma is very complex with strong notes of prunes, combined with notes of alcohol, chocolate, and berries. The flavor is less interesting, but still nice; quite sweet with quite strong notes of berries, combined with lesser notes of prunes, wood, alcohol, and roasted malt. The end is quite dry with notes of wood lingering.

Golden-brown colour. Toffee, alcohol and crackerlike aromas. Sweet, brown sugar flavour with light molasses. Simple but tasty, and surprisingly not a lot of booziness.

Bottle. Balck colour with a brown head. Roasted aroma with some hints of smoke. Roasted malt flavor and also some chocolate and smoke in the flavor. Smooth dry finish.

Smallish, light beige, normal head over chestnut brown body, vaguely hazy at the bottom of the bottle. Deep, sweet, malty aroma with caramel and cardboard notes. (Possible that the beer is a bit old.) Bitter, malty taste with roasty, hoppy aftertaste; malt somewhat toffee-like. Burnt toast lingering. Good, and interesting, but not great.

Bottle: poured a brown/reddish color ale with a huge foamy head with perfect retention. Aroma of sweet slightly roasted malt with some hops that are very hard to recognize. Taste is slightly sweet with a good malt presence and ends with astringent hops that don’t really fit in there IMHO. Body is less full then expected and carbonation is quite high. I find this generally lack character and the presence of astringent hops didn’t so it for me. Probably one of the less enjoyable offering from this brewer.

Medium fine-laced light brown head over deep dark red body through which light can just barely make it. Powerful sweet aroma of molasses and syrup with notes of coffee, oil, and wild berries. Aroma also somewhat bread-like. Taste is faintly sourish molasses with notes of wild berries and burnt syrup. Aftertaste is peppery coffee with oily hop notes. Alcohol heat lingers in the mouth. This is a great beer! Like a powerful imperial stout, but with more flavour. Especially the berry-like notes really make this stand out from your normal imperial stout. How they can call this a scotch ale is beyond me.
