Description
The Atlantic Brewing Company began as Acadia Brewing in 1990. At first the brewery was located inside the Lompoc Cafe in downtown Bar Harbor and had a maximum capacity of just one barrel at a time. Within a few years the demand for our beers had grown so much that we moved the brewery two doors down from the restaurant and increased our capacity to seven-barrel batches. However, by 1998, we had outgrown that facility as well and so we moved again – this time to our current location on the Knox Road. Our estate brewery was built on the grounds of a 19th century Maine farmstead, that employs native vegetation and local stonework.

Atlantic Brewing Company has created a site to develop new and exciting small batch beers only seven barrels at a time. This pilot facility allows fellow brewers from around the state, country, and world to collaborate on unique recipes and formulations in a shared environment. These brews, together with Atlantic small batch beer, are offered in a tasting room setting. Flights, large pours, and growlers are available for purchase at the bar.

This is from a 12oz bottle contract brewed by D L Geary sample 6/23/2008 Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights when held to the light. Fluffy mocha head that laces the class on the way down. The nose is deep chocolate and coffee, nice deep roasty maltiness. Some fig and dried cherries in there too. Taste is creamy, velvety, chocolaty goodness. Slight alcohol bite and a little ash in the middle. Leaves a bitter roasted coffee in the aftertaste. Thick body with a silky mouthfeel and a medium dry finish. Just an excellent brew. I’ve had this several times and I just keep coming back for more.

Tasted at the big “SeaBass has got to go” tasting courtesy HonusWagner. Thanks, I appreciate you hanging on to this so I could give it a try. Pours deep copper with gold edges and white head. The aroma is apples, a touch of peach, prunes and a sense of ripe cherries and a touch of heat at the end of the draw. The taste is malty and earthy as well as seaweed Atlantic Ocean like with some sweet rich dark fruity esters intermingling here and there. A few more sips reveals a modest amount of smoke and maybe a sense of peat. Whatever wheat notes there may be they are pretty faint and well hidden.

Bottle @ Seabass going away party, Jan15th ’11. Courtesy of Ibrew2or3.

Pored like a cola with nice small beige head. The aroma is much like the taste; sweet & malty, lightly roasted nuts up front. A squirrel would like the aroma. Very nutty. A bit more dry towards the finish. Very light body, too light. Watery mouthfeel, ok at best.

12 oz bottle from LiteWait. Yellow honey color, small white head that hung around for awhile. Light wheat nose, a smooth light wheat taste. It would be a very nice, refreshing beer on a summer day or something to remind you of summer on a cold winters day. (although, it’s a warm winter night right now) This beer gave me a bit more hope for this brewer. The Blueberry sucks.

Pitch black with a small medium brown head. Coffee, cocoa, medium roasted malts in the aroma. Smooth, dry mouth and dryer finish. Flavor is full of roasted malts, coffee notes, cocoa, light vanilla, toffee. Has a real light bitterness from the roasted malts. A real nice stout that is a nice finish to 2010.

22oz bottle pours a clear orange with one ring of white head. Terrible nose, overly sweet, wet malts, booze. Flavor is like rum that had pine needles soaked in it. Pine sol. Really hard finish.

Bottle via a trade with a best before of 12/10. Pours with a deep brown, near black body with a lasting dark tan head. Decent lace. Aromas of cocoa powder, leather, currants, flint, smoke, campfire, and dark berries. Flavors of chocolate, leather, smoke, almonds, tobacco and a light dark-fruit note. Lively bubbles. Well done, very pleasant to drink.
