Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

Bottled@Kerstbierfestival, Essen. Deep brown colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is spices, caramel and some sourness. Flavour is spices, malts and some mild hints of hops and yeast. Not much how much of an Christmasbeer this tastes like though...

Bottle. (thx for sharing, papsoe) Hazy, yellowish body, topped by an off-white head. Sweet and fruity aroma. The flavor is a bit lactic, else it is fruity, citrusy and slightlly bitter. Medium body. The finish has the same weak sourness, and is quite fruity. I bet the sourness wasn’t intended from the brewer. (071006)

Dark brown to black color; huge head. Good Belgian aroma, with some roasted malt, dark chocolate, very light spices and Belgian yeast. The mouthfeel is quite dry, with some dark chocolate flavor and a very light sour touch; at the end the mouthfeel is even a bit harsh. The aroma was better, but overall not so great.

Bottle, 8.2%. Good sweet aroma with a little dried fruit. Very dark brown colour, small light brown head. The flavour is slightly sweet with OK fruitiness and a roasted malt bitterness. Finishes with liquorice and yeast. An atypical Belgian, but good. 7 3 8 3 17

Draught at ZBF09. Good dark malt aroma. Cloudy dark brown colour. Good stable light brown head. The flavour is nicely malty, not sweet but OK. Slightly roasted with just a hint of cream. 7 3 7 3 16

Bottle, 8.2%. 5 years past BB date, but kept well in my own cellar. Yeasty aroma, slightly oxidised. Almost black colour, seems hazy. Stable light brown head. The flavour is sweet and spicy, has a little roasted malt notes. Creamy finish with a nice coffee note. 7 3 7 4 17

(Bottle 33 cl) Hazy golden with a creamy, beige head. Lightly sweetish fruit aroma with a whiff of yeast. Medium body, some fruit and then an odd, underlying tartness - sorta Berliner Weisse sour, which I doubt is intentional. Almost no bitterness. 061007

Unclear dark brown with fine creamy brown head. Looking like a fine stout and smells like a fine stout. Chocolate & dried fruits in the aroma. Taste is of of roasted malts, coffee, spices, chocolate, dried fruits & alcohol. Smooth, warm & filling. Long end... Very nice!

Huge, just-yellow coloured head; hazy yellow beer Very hot-fermented nose, garden herbs, dried hops. Good hoppy, noble/aroma hops taste, quite dry; unripe banana and cucumber flavours. Very good! Light to medium bodied, bit burning MF. Nice try, by far the best of this brewery so far.

(Bottle 33 cl) Hazy, dark brown with a vague, reddish tint and a dense, beige head leaving some lacework. Fat aroma of hard roasted malts - lightly burned actually. Quite a full body with plenty of burned malt, lightly sweet with an underlying spiciness and then a burned, slightly ashy finish. Quite decent but atypically Belgian with these almost stout-like characteristics. 180807
