Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

Sampled at Zythos 2009. Clear gold, lasting beige head. I thought it had a peppery rocket feel to it. Over a pale blond Belgian beer. Some decent hops though, sherberty. Drinkable.

Draught at ZBF09. Teaish aroma. Hazy pale yellow colour. Nice stable white head. The flavour is slightly citric. Lagery flavour, better mouthfeel than a pils, though. Good flavour, hint of bread. To me this is just a flavourful lager.

Bottle at Zythos Beer Festival, March 7th and 8th 09 Pours lemon in colour with a white head. The aroma is lightly floral with elderflower which is just past its prime. The floralness is also present in the mouth with a little bit of lavender alongside the elderflower. More enjoyable in the summer maybe but I think it carries little authority or presence and there are much better saison’s out there. A5 A4 F6 P3 OV13 3.1

(Draught at Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen, 14 Feb 2009) Very dark brown colour with creamy, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, dark fruit and creamy hints of coffee. Malty taste with dried fruit, raisins and chocolate. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. A touch of sweetness throughout. Quite an excellent litte Belgian stout.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Listed as Tournay Black. Light brown, fluffy head resides over a near black body. Aroma is very yeasty with chocolate, cocoa, a bit of orange, caramel and plastic. Taste is roasty with tobacco, smoky, dirt and a bit of burnt wood. Watery mouthfeel and light carbonation.
